What temperature should I have my system boiler set to?

If you're looking for a good balance of warmth and efficiency, you want to set your boiler to at least 65°C. Setting it a few degrees higher won't hurt. But it's important not to set it any lower than that. This is so bacteria in the water doesn't grow, and cause nasty things like Legionella.

The lower the heating flow temperature, the more efficient the heating system - lowering your gas consumption and consequently running costs. Meanwhile, we recommend the hot water temperature to be set at around 50°C.

So I had a call this week from an existing customer, their parents boiler had gone off, they’d had an engineer out from a local company who’d tried to tell them they would need to replace their 8 year old boiler already, and at a hefty £2800 price tag.

I attended the same day and the boiler was back up and running within an hour, the total cost of repair was only £260, saving the customer £2540.

Needless to say the customer was very happy.
