Our ‘OG’ small plates.  
 
Sharing small plates is very common in the Indian subcontinent. You sit down with family and friends and share lots of different items. To replicate that in a restaurant format in Newcastle, with street food at the forefront, was a brave move back in 2010. And we think it paid off having inspired many other Indian restaurants in the city.

Our ‘OG’ small plates include Sweet Potato Chaat, Bombay Bomb and Kurkuri Lentil Battered Okra Fries.

High Bridge Opens. 
 
We opened our first venue in 2010 on Newcastle’s historic High Bridge. A cobbled hideaway just off the Georgian grandeur of Grey Street, slap bang in the centre of Newcastle. It’s was love at first site 😉 ! 
 
Our flagship restaurant, when it opened, was a vibrant haven of symbolic Indian colours mixing a vintage Indian look with images of the Angel of the North and The Tyne Bridge (because we’re proud Geordies). 
 
14 years later and we’re looking a little different! 

Soul Searching. 

We’ve been looking back lately at just how far Dabbawal has come since its inception in 2008 and what a 16 years it’s been!  

The first street-food establishment of its kind in the north east, we created Dabbawal to revolutionise the way people enjoy Indian food. From the old one and two-course scenario to shared, tapas style eating in a relaxed, buzzing atmosphere.
