gearing up to climb an Acer Pseudoplatanus (Sycamore). The tree has died; possibly due to disturbance of the root system and requires removal for safety🌳 🧗

Working on the Ovington Tree Project today clearing back vegetation from the tree transplants to allow light back in so their leaves can photosynthesise and the trees can continue to grow🌳

Walking along the Tyne river between Newburn & Wylam I noticed a number of young Oak trees suffering from Erysiphe alphitoides AKA Oak leaf powdery mildew.
This is a felty-white mycelium that covers the second flush of leaves in a growing season causing them to shrivel and blacken.
Right now (late summer) is the time of year when this is most likely to happen. When warmer, mild over cast conditions prevail.
The recommend that no treatment is generally necessary however on important amenity trees, fungicidal sprays can prove beneficial.
