We're aligned with Vital Signs, but what does that mean? β
Vital Signs 'takes the pulse' of the North East, and highlights issues that need support. One of the areas that needs our focus is food poverty, and our colleagues have spent over 400 hours volunteering at food banks this year so far. πβ

Our IT team recently headed along to Oasis Community Housing: Hope. Not Homelessness to help transform their outside space π β
We're volunteering to make a real impact in our local communities, and we do that by aligning with the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland North East Vital Signs 24 report. β
One of the key areas needing support in our region is housing, so our colleagues headed over to the one of Oasis' accommodation projects in Houghton-le-Spring to get to work.β
"The volunteers have made a profound impact on the project by tidying up a quiet outside space for residents to enjoy."β

Need a helping hand? β
We're working to make the biggest impact we can in our region and local communities, so we've aligned with the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland North East Vital Signs 24 report, to focus on the areas that need us most. β
On average, households in our region have lower weekly earnings than the rest of country, so it's important that we support members and communities who are facing difficulties.β
We've partnered with Citizens Advice Gateshead to offer our members and colleagues free confidential and impartial advice, information and guidance on a range of issues. β

Join our Community Assistant, Sean, for a day volunteering at the Patterdale Hall Estate in the Lake District, which is part of the YMCA North Tyneside π€³β
We're focusing our volunteering efforts on supporting causes outlined in the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland North East Vital Signs 24 report, so the opportunity to help an environmental cause for a charity that supports housing and homelessness was right up our street. β
Sean, alongside eight other colleagues, helped to remove the plastic tubing from trees to allow them to grow and support the eco system on the estate, where you can book a 'holiday that helps' - every stay helps to support the YMCA, who work to transform the lives of young people in the North East.β

Hartlepool β meet your Branch Manager! β
As a local, making a positive difference in the town is very close to Carrieanne's heart. She's worked at the society since 2014, and the Hartlepool team have a huge 52 years of service between them! β
"The branch is so important to Hartlepool. In a town where branches have closed and passbooks are gradually being taken away in other banks, it really is important that we're here to help anyone and be able to offer the type of service the people of Hartlepool need.β β

Our purpose is to connect communities with a better financial future, and one way we do that is through our colleague volunteering. β
All our colleagues get two paid volunteering days per year, here's what they've been up to in June. ββ
Branch colleagues volunteered at the Daisy Chain megastore in Gateshead, a charity that supports Neurodiversity. π§ β
Our Operational Resilience team volunteered at Northumberland Zoo. π
β
Colleagues helped out at St Oswald's Hospice with some gardening. πΏβ
IT Operations headed down to Blyth beach and Sunderlandβs Silkworthβs nature park to litter pick. πβ
We went back to school and helped with a Primary Enterprise World event. π
We recently headed down to YMCA North Tyneside to see how they've used a Β£4k grant from our Community Fund at Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, to help teenage asylum seekers escaping conflict rebuild their lives in North Shields.β
The grant has helped to fund the salary of a support worker, a whole host of activities including boxing and English language lessons, and help make the YMCA feel like home.
