"Residents of Sherwood Avenue say that they have not seen so many butterflies for years. Their small patch of rewilded grass verge has produced a profusion of flowers and provided a habitat where Britainโs fast depleting insect life can flourish.
Is there a patch of ground near you that would be suitable for rewilding ? If so, please let us know and we will help you restore it to its natural beauty.
Do you work for an organisation within Kingsthorpe and have space where you could plant some spring flowering bulbs?
Kingsthorpe Parish Council Climate Change and Environment Committee would like to offer collections of spring flowering bulbs to local organisations and schools.
These packs are to plant in autumn, ready to flower in winter and spring, offering pollinators one of their first meals of the year.
Please email [email protected] before 1st September 2024 if you are interested in receiving a pack of spring flowering bulbs. Please state in your email if you require packs for sun or shade and how many you would be interested in receiving
Flying insects in the UK have declined by 60% in the past 20years. They are essential to the fertilisation of our food crops and our food security. To help sustain insect populations:
1. Grow more flowers, shrubs, and trees
2. Let patches of garden and land grow wild
3. Cut grass less often
4. Donโt disturb insect nest and hibernation spots
5. Think carefully about whether to use pesticides
Individuals can also get involved by completing Flower-Insect-Timed (FIT) counts. FIT counts can be done anywhere, including gardens and parks, any time from April to September. For more information, please see https://ukpoms.org.uk/fit-counts

Firstly, a big thank you to Boughton Parish Council and Kingsthorpe Parish Council who generously provided funding for the materials and equipment hire.
And of course, huge thanks to Rachael, Paul and Olly, Dominic, Peter, Chris, Karen and Steve M who joined regular volunteers Tom, Eluned, Julie, Rob, Steve, Sheila, Logan, James and Anne who all worked hard to accomplish our goal of improving the spinney paths. Yes, it did take longer with fewer people than we had hoped but it was a superb effort.

Christmas Lights
Apologies in the delay with the removal of the lights and Council asks that resident's please bear with us.
Despite our best endeavours to get them turned off and removed early January, parts of Harborough Road (near Waitrose) are still lit with festive cheer unfortunately, but it is simply due to a logistics issue.
The last few remaining lights are scheduled to be removed on Sunday 4th February 2024.
