The Squirrels, Duston

If you are local to Duston then Mark Hanrahan will be a familiar character!

With his colourful wardrobe and nearly always wearing a hat!!

Mark often pops in and sees us, he will spend time chatting to the team and sometimes drawing us pictures.

He came in the other day to tell us of a fundraising challenge he has set himself, to carry a 20KG weight as he walks from Duston to Weston Favell.

Mark is doing this to raise money for the Oxford Hospitals Charity surgery department. Mark had a brain tumour which has left him with several disabilities.

We thought we’d share his poster and link so more of the Duston community can see it and support Mark.

Polite reminder.

We have a very busy beer garden, lots of people on a sunny day want to sit outside and eat and we are very glad you do.

We ask our customers to tell us a table number when ordering food so our servers can make sure we bring out your food to the right table.

By just telling us “I’m outside” doesn’t help. Telling us “I want to eat outside” is absolutely fine. But we will ask you for a table number.

Please don’t be rude to my team, they are doing their job by asking for your table number. It’s a pretty standard concept in most places that have people outside.

Dear Duston

I don’t have the words to thank you all for the tremendous support this weekend.

When I first wanted to do the Go Nuts Festival last year you didn’t know quite what to expect. But you came out and enjoyed a great weekend that almost immediately I was asked if I’d do it again.

So I did.

This weekend saw so many of you (over 500) attend the festival and despite yesterday’s rain showers it turned out to be a mighty fine weekend.

All the incredible musicians we had performing just made for a great combination of absolute belters from start to finish.

MOSounds Ltd were yet again fabulous with the stage set up, lighting and sound.

Duston Parish Council thank you for the support and advice earlier in preparation for the event with regards how we could consider the community, it made a real difference.

And finally, to each and every one of my team, you guys are my family, all of you working 1 if not 2 shifts this weekend, the level of professionalism over the 2 days is second to none and I love you all dearly. I can’t do what I do without your continued support.

Pubs are precious, so many closing, we have a wonderful village and wider community than ever, so knowing you want to come out and enjoy being with your friends and family is a great feeling.

Now it’s time for sleep…….

The festival is still on today and people have paid for a weekend of entertainment so if you come in adhoc then you will be asked either to purchase a wristband or leave.

Do not tell my team you are only “having one” because it’s not fair on them to have to tell you time and time again to either buy a band or leave!
