Hardy Cyclamen at Willows Nursery

We sell plants by mail order, concentrating on our own interests of Hardy Cyclamen - specifically Cy

The first 4 photographs show some of our Cyclamen Hederifolium stock plants that we gather seeds from - you can see some of the freshly curled up stems of set flowers that will give us seed next summer - and the final photograph shows a nursery bed coming into flower where we will lift corms from for sale from next summer.

Cyclamen Hederifolium flowers are now beginning to show – this is one of our mature stock plants that we gather seed from.

Hederifolium will transplant happily all year round and we still have some available to send out.

As Cyclamen Hederifolium and Coum are now entering dormancy, we will begin sending out orders on Tuesday 7th May.

They will be mature enough to have flowered here at the Nursery at least one year previously.

Our collections of corms will mainly be the pink flowered forms (which is the dominant colour) but there may be some white flowered plants too.

The photographs are of corms a few years older - firstly, Cyclamen Hederifolium when in flower in the autumn and, secondly, Cyclamen Coum when in flower in the winter.

Here's a shot of our Cyclamen Coum nursery bed that we will be lifting corms from for sending from May when they are dormant.

10/01/2024

We are taking pre-orders for Cyclamen Coum and Cyclamen Hederifolium for despatch from May 2024 when they are dormant.

The photograph is of a self sown Cyclamen Coum - probably 10+ years old - that I took this morning.

Coum is just starting to flower and will continue for another couple of months.

Each Cyclamen Hederifolium corm will flower for several weeks – but you might find that different corms grow/flower at slightly different ‘rates’.

Flowers come first with the leaves appearing a little later, overlapping with the flowering period (and the leaves then remain until spring) – these photographs show 2 mature corms in our stock plant shadehouse currently.

The first has finished flowering and has a mass of leaves – and you can see the curled up set flowers in the middle that will form seed pods – the second is still flowering well with some set flowers and leaves just coming through (the larger leaves showing are from neighbouring plants).

12/09/2023

Our poplar trees start to loose their leaves quite early on in the autumn but the Cyclamen Hederifolium flowers don't have a problem pushing through them.

The leaves will do the same soon too.

04/08/2023

Here are our first Cyclamen Hederifolium flowers of 2023 – this is one of our stock plants that we gather seeds from.

With Cyclamen Hederifolium the flowers come first with the leaves appearing a little later, overlapping with the flowering period (and the leaves then remain until spring).

Cyclamen Hederifolium will transplant happily all year round. Of course, it’s easiest when the corms are fully dormant, but as growth progresses, just a little more care is needed in covering all growth loosely except open leaves, large buds and open flowers – they will soon settle in.

27/07/2023

At this time of year, Cyclamen Hederifolium corms are mainly still dormant, but some are starting to ‘wake up’ even though the growth might not show above the surface for a few weeks.

With Cyclamen Hederifolium the flowers come first with the leaves appearing a little later, overlapping with the flowering period (and the leaves then remain until spring) - so these signs of new growth are flowers.

Cyclamen Hederifolium will transplant happily all year round. With new growth like this, it’s just a question of covering it with soil – as growth progresses, just a little more care is needed in arranging buds/flowers and leaves as you plant, but they soon settle in.

The seed pods are now ripening - these are Cyclamen Hederifolium (they flowered last autumn).

It's a bit of a race to collect the burst pods before ants move in ! They are attracted by the sticky substance that coats the seeds - in your garden this is very handy as it helps to spread the seeds around but not ideal for us when we want to gather and sow in our nursery beds !

We have now opened our online shop for orders.

Cyclamen Hederifolium :
Whilst we continue to build our stock levels back up, we are afraid that this year we will only be offering our collection of 10 x Cyclamen Hederifolium corms for £17.00 (plus £4 delivery per order) - not the ‘younger’ corm collection.

If you would like to order more than 30 corms please get in touch before you place an order as we have limited availability.

The 10 corm collection will all be mature enough to have flowered here at the Nursery at least one year previously and should all flower from late summer.

Cyclamen Coum :
We also have a limited quantity of Cyclamen Coum for sale - 5 x Cyclamen Coum corms for £24.00 (plus £4 delivery per order).

If you would like to order more than 10 corms please get in touch before you place an order as we have very limited availability.

These Cyclamen Coum corms will all be mature enough to have flowered here at the Nursery at least one year previously and should all flower in the winter.

Please note : Whilst corms of both varieties may not be showing any growth at present, they are living corms that are only in summer dormancy – they are not dried corms (that have just been kept in storage such as you might see on offer elsewhere) – and will need planting on receipt.

We can send out all year round, but it is easier to left and plant the dormant corms and they can get settled before they come into flower/leaf.

Delivery :
Orders will be sent first thing on Mondays and Wednesdays from Monday 26th June by Royal Mail First Class Post.

The photographs show dormant Hederifolium corms (and the fact that the roots come from the top of the corms and the bottoms are bare) plus Hederifolium and Coum in flower.

Please get in touch if you would like to order or have any questions.

Our Cyclamen Coum are in full flower and adding brightness on these dull cold days – here are some photographs of a few of our mature naturalised plants.

The final photograph is an area that we thought we’d cleared all the corms from a few years ago – it just shows how cyclamen will self-sow around !

We are still building up stocks again – this is a slower growing variety than Hederifolium and very popular - but will have some available for sale in the late Spring/early Summer when we sort through our dormant nursery beds.

Please message or email us if you would like us to let you know when we start taking orders.

Cyclamen Hederifolium are in full flower now - the flowers show first with leaves coming during the flowering period and staying until Spring.

The first photograph shows some of our stock plants (that we collect seed from) in one of our shadehouses – these are probably 10 to 15 year old corms.

The next 2 show one of these plants with about 30 flowers – other flowers have already set seed (you can see the coiled up stems) and there are still new buds coming too.

The final photograph shows a bed that we will lift corms from next summer when dormant to sort/grade and then sell – we sowed this seed bed 4 years ago.

We still have Cyclamen Hederifolium for sale this year, at the moment, 10 corms for £15 plus £4 postage.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

20/03/2022

Cyclamen Coum was late to start flowering at the Nursery this winter, but the plus side is that they are still flowering strongly now.

This is photograph is of one of our nursery beds that we will be lifting corms from for selling as they enter dormancy in the late Spring/early Summer.

We will be selling 5 corms (which will be mature enough to have flowered here at the Nursery at least one year previously) for £24 plus £4 delivery - please let us know if you would like to be notified when we start taking orders.

These photographs are of a couple of our Cyclamen Hederifolium stock plants. They are, maybe, 12 to 15 years old. The flowers are starting to set and the seed that we gather from these and our other stock plants will provide corms to sell in about 5 years time !

Photos from Hardy Cyclamen at Willows Nursery's post 04/10/2021

Sorry, we have sold out of Cyclamen Hederifolium and Cyclamen Coum and won’t be offering them for sale again until late Spring 2022.
Please email [email protected] if you would like us
to let you know when we are ready to take orders again.

19/09/2021

We still have some Cyclamen Coum available for sale this year, but demand has been such that we won't now have any more Cyclamen Hederifolium available until late Spring 2022.

Photos from Hardy Cyclamen at Willows Nursery's post 08/08/2021

We are very pleased to be able to offer, for the first time in several years, Cyclamen Coum for sale – this is the winter flowering variety of hardy cyclamen.

We will have limited availability this year and we will only be sending out Cyclamen Coum corms whilst they are dormant for the summer.

Most Cyclamen Hederifolium won’t be starting to show flowers for a few weeks yet - but this photograph shows what’s beginning to happen now below ground.

We are now sorting through our dormant Cyclamen Hederifolium nursery beds and have re-opened our online shop for orders !
https://www.willowsnursery.co.uk/product-category/cyclamen-hederifolium/

We are sending out dormant corms that will look like the first photograph - but in a couple of months they will flower like the 2nd one.

We will also be offering Cyclamen Coum - winter flowering - this summer. Let us know if you'd like to hear when we start to take orders.

Cyclamen Hederifolium - Willows Nursery 08/09/2020

Sorry, we are not taking any orders for Cyclamen Hederifolium at present.

These unprecedented times have led to an unprecedented level of orders and we need to allow our remaining Cyclamen (which we grow ourselves from seed) to grow to a saleable size.

We expect to be offering Cyclamen Hederifolium for sale again in Spring 2021.

Cyclamen Hederifolium - Willows Nursery Cyclamen Hederifolium grown from our own saved seed. Autumn flowering, ideal for dry conditions.

Photos from Hardy Cyclamen at Willows Nursery's post 27/08/2020

These photographs are of a couple of Cyclamen Hederifolium corms/plants that we have planted in one of our shadehouses to act as stock plants (that we will gather seed from to grow plants for sale).

These were planted out a couple of months ago after we had sorted through a nursery bed of dormant corms – they were a bit too big to sell/send by post (10 of the same size would make a heavy parcel).

They are probably a year or two older/larger than those we do send out as our collection of 10 corms for £15.00 (plus £4.00 postage) but they give you an idea of what you can expect in the future from any corms that you buy from us that are growing in good conditions.

The first two photographs are of the same plant – I counted 30 flower stems (including those already setting for seed, buds and open flowers).

The third photograph shows another corm that has already been flowering well and now has at least half a dozen flower stems coiled down onto the soil which will form seed pods – you can expect at least a couple of dozed seeds from each pod next summer

27/07/2020

Cyclamen Hederifolium flowers are now showing.

These flowers are in one one of our shadehouses and are from a single corm that is probably around 5 or 6 years old.

You can see photographs showing our Cyclamen Hederifolium through a whole year on this page of our website https://www.willowsnursery.co.uk/cyclamen-hederifolium-through-the-year/?et_fb=1

19/07/2020

You might see odd flowers of Cyclamen Hederifolium starting to show during July.

This photograph shows what is going on underground before you see the flowers – some of these are buds, some are leaves that will surface later in the flowering season.

We send Cyclamen Hederifolium out all year round and they will transplant happily.

Plant so that the top of the corm is about 2 cm below the surface – new growth like this must be totally covered. If there are open flowers and seed pods leave them above the soil. Also leave open leaves above the surface, of course, but cover most of the leaf stalk as this will have been running under the surface.

Photos from Hardy Cyclamen at Willows Nursery's post 31/05/2020

Most of our Cyclamen Hederifolium here at the Nursery have now lost their leaves and are, effectively, dormant for a couple of months. It is a good time to plant cyclamen, however, a little care needs to be taken planting Hederifolium when it is dormant due to the unusual pattern of root growth - the roots tend to mostly sprout from the upper edge of the corm whilst the underneath of the corm is almost bare. The corm should be planted with the smooth side DOWN and with the roots laid out horizontally.

The first photograph shows the top of a dormant Hederifolium corm the middle photograph shows the bottom of the same corm which is more bare/smooth and the third photograph shows the top of a dormant Hederifolium corm with a coiled down flower stem with a seed pod attached. When planting, the seed pod should be left uncovered on the surface of the soil - it will ripen and burst in another month or two.

27/04/2020

We are also sending with Hermes now as well !

07/04/2020

These are are difficult, worrying and confusing times - we have decided that we will still send out Dwarf Box plants and Cyclamen Hederifolium if anyone would like to order them at this time (we have found a 'large mouthed' post box on an industrial estate in town, so no need for direct contact with anyone).

This photograph (taken this morning) shows coiled down flower stems with small seed pods - these will increase in size over the next few months until they ripen and split open in July/August.
