🕯️Join us in paying tribute to General Sir Mike Jackson, who has passed away at the age of 80.

A beloved figure in the military community, he served with honour and distinction for nearly 45 years.

The father-of-three was the Chief of the General Staff for three years, from 2003 and 2006.

His leadership style was fair and no-nonsense, earning him respect from all who knew him.

Mike, served his country in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and was the head of the British Army before the Iraq war ensured.

The dedicated Army man was dubbed 'The Prince of Darkness' for his hoarse voice and cool demeanour.

Rest in peace, General Jackson. You will be dearly missed. 🇬🇧

A memorial was unveiled in memory of Group Captain David Ayton Haward, who died when his RAF Hawker Harrier II GR7 crashed during a practice bombing run on December 18, 1998. 🕊️

In his last moments, he was able to steer the falling aircraft away from homes in Stainton Moor and crashed in a field on Shepherds Lodge farm.

"His final actions whether conscious or instinctive may have spared lives on the ground - a selfless act that left an indelible mark on those who witnessed it." ❤️

Great news for our Armed Forces community! The government has announced that the HM Armed Forces Veteran Card will now be accepted as valid photo ID at polling stations for future UK elections.

Although these cards weren’t accepted for the 2024 General Election, this change will make it easier for veterans to vote, starting with the local elections in May 2025.

🌺🇬🇧 We were sorry to hear about the death of Corporal Michael Patrick Heenan. He joined the military when he was 18. He last served in Germany in 1985.

🕊️Our thoughts are with his friends and family. Thank you for your service, Sir. 🇬🇧

Did you know J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings served in the British Army during WW1? 🪖🖋️

In June 1916 he was posted to the 11th Battalion, The Lancashire Fusiliers. From July onwards his battalion went in and out of the line along the northern sector of the Somme. Tolkien served as a Battalion Signalling Officer.

At the end of October, he contracted trench fever and was sent back to hospital in Birmingham. He remained unfit for the rest of the war.

The impact of the battle remained with him for the rest of his life and influenced his writing.

The men of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion were the only Canadians to participate in the Battle of the Bulge.

Congratulations to Blesma Member Stacey Quirk on being awarded the Jack Trigg Memorial Award🏅

After serving as a Combat Medical Technician in Afghanistan, Stacey faced a carer ending injury that resulted in the loss of her leg.

The veteran's determination led her to represent Team GB at sitting volleyball and para ice hockey, and she now plays amputee football!
