In 2021 during late winter I burnt a herbal garni to stimulate aged wisdom and knowledge for an article that I was writing for a national magazine.
The use of 'incense' to aid in studying and the like has been used for centuries. Much of the magic used in past times involved the use of “physica,” naturally occurring substances like plants and stones, found in gardens and woods. The incense blend I refer to above I've given the recipe to below: It uses the following herbs and oils:
2 parts sage leaf
2 parts anise seed
2 parts rosemary leaf
1 part myrrh
1 part calendula flower petals
A few drops sandalwood oil
I usually mix up a large batch at the start of each year and burn some* while I’m doing research. In my opinion, incense allows me to retain information better and to make connections between obscure facts.

As you're probably aware, I give a few hours of my time voluntarily each month to help people with mental health, low confidence, self-esteem and anxiety issues.
I've been asked on several occasions if I have a supporting workbook of simple exercises, positive empowerment prompts and affirmative steps to recognise life's positives, yet help change their negative behavioural patterns.
Well, the fact is that I've never offered such a workbook - until now.
People have expressed that they'd rather not read a lengthy self-help book because often when they're stressed their attention span is limited. They've requested something easy to read, but comprehensive enough for them to view and make positive steps in their life towards the brighter future.
I'm enjoying writing this new offering and it should be available for just £6 via instant download from my website within the next week.
It feels good to put my 28 years as a psychologist into an affordable workbook available for everyone.

I've just had the pleasure of facilitating a full moon satsang for a beautiful group of people via Zoom. I spoke about the significance of tonight's Wolf Moon, which was followed by a relaxing and connective lunar meditation.
I also spoke of Moon Water and its empowerment. It's not too late to make yours, here's how below:
To create your full moon water, obtain a phthalate free container with a lid and fill it with filtered water. Allow the water to be blessed by the moonlight (overnight) either in a safe space outside, near a window or on a windowsill.
Next, choose either a Moonstone crystal or a tumbled piece of Seraphinite. If the crystals you have selected are hard enough and will not be destroyed by water, you can also place them in the container with the water, allowing the moon and the crystals to supercharge it. If the crystals are not hard enough to be submerged in water, then you can create a circle with quartz around your moon water receptacle and charge this way.
You can use this moon water for other rituals, cleansing your other crystals or yourself via a bath, or it can be transferred into a spray bottle for spritzing on yourself or your environment when you want to harness some of Mother Moon’s power, this is what I tend to do.
Blessings on this Wolf Moon.

P.S if you would like to join me for the next Full Moon Satsang by Zoom or messenger, please get in touch. Moon Satsang lasts 40-45 minutes and includes a relaxing guided journey and is by donation.
As a therapist, my clients might choose to see me for any number of issues. The most popular areas include the physical and emotional states.
I'm unsure who originally quoted the statement below, but it's stuck in my mind for a few decades now;
"Depression is living in the past; anxiety is living in the future. Peace can only be found in the present."

WAKE UP
We all hear the wake-up call at some point in our lives. It can come from a sudden widening of our perspective—of catching a glimpse of our capabilities we didn’t know existed, of that precious wild animal inside that takes us by surprise. Or from the breathtaking sight of the rising sun or an early morning walk in the woods, or the smell of the sea that reminds us there’s more to life than our dogged and draining pursuits.
It can also come from the longing for a wider perspective. From despair, from feeling besieged and burned out. From the loss of a loved one, as in my case, or of the life we knew. From repeated setbacks and failures, and sometimes a single one. It can even come from success and realizing that it brought none of the happiness we were looking for.
Have you experienced a wake up call that changed your views of life?

Something isn't quite right.....
On 19th January last year I was called to a local smallholding. Its new(ish) owners had been there for around 9 months. Their two horses were struggling to settle when moved to the winter grazing paddock. As soon as the horses entered tgrough the five bar gate, albeit hesitantly - which resulted in them being loaded into the horse transporter to travel just 100 yards and unloaded, the horses went wild. Circling, bucking, careering around in circles and generally being agitated and unsettled.
As an earth acupuncturist I took my case of supplies and started by dowsing the whole field with my pendulum. Not only did I detect an underground water source, my dowsing rods told me there was also a black energy stream. Our ancestors were, thousands of years ago, well aware of the energies involved in what we now call the genius loci – the spirit of place, but we have lost this ability through disconnection to the land.
The earth under this paddock was distributed into 4 points including a truncated stream that held onto ancestral memory from the church next door. I carried out metal copper rodding and 2 other deflection techniques and after 3 hours I concluded the session.
The owner and myself decided to try leading the horses to the newly cleansed field to gauge their response. I took hold of Garda's head collar, one of the horses and astoundingly both horses entered the field gate confidently. Mrs S broke down in tears at such an instantaneous 'result'. I was emotional to see these beautiful horses, heads up in the air looking and searching for the change in atmosphere.
I wasn’t content to accept my findings as instinctively I knew that field had a hidden past too. After researching on several old maps I discovered that the field was part of an old co**se pathway to the church.
I'm still in contact with Mrs S and her horses continue to enjoy their winter grazing field.
Have you felt uneasy anywhere? Indoors or outdoors? Tell me about it below.

A client of mine suffered from Restless Legs Syndrome.
I suggested MAGNESIUM and she's been sleeping solidly for the past two weeks.
Magnesium is a critical mineral for osteoporosis and skeletal structure. Necessary for good nerve and muscle function, healthy blood vessels, balanced blood pressure and athletic endurance. Important for tooth formation, heart and kidney health, and restful sleep. It counteracts stress, irregular heartbeat, emotional instability and depression. Supplements can help alcoholism, diabetes and asthma.
Deficiency means muscle spasms, cramping, stomach disturbances, sometimes fibromyalgia. Magnesium is readily absorbed from dark green vegetables, seafood, whole grains, dairy foods, nuts, legumes and other foods.

Competent healers, whether they’re doctors, energy healers, or therapists, know they can’t heal unless they can feel. The best healers do not foster bypassing emotions, even temporarily. Instead, they create the conditions for their movement and flow. Skillful healers are comfortable with intense emotions in others because they know how to handle those emotions in themselves.
Good healers who foster wholeness are able to express sadness, anger, disappointment, fear or whatever else arises. These are natural human emotions, good or bad.
Successful healers are experts at healthy empathy.

ALL Illness Originates Within.
Allow me to elaborate.....
It is rare for any person whose health has been compromised to ask himself, "Why am I sick? What is really happening in my body?” To the contrary, all of one's attention—and that of those around you, is focused on one's blatant, disagreeable, or painful symptoms, which are actually just surface manifestations of deep-rooted illness.
It seems self-evident that the normal reaction would be to make a vigorous counterattack to the assault represented by the illness - which is what generally happens in orthodox medicine and the prescription of pharmaceuticals.
As a general rule we behave as if disease were an outside entity independent of the oneself, which, by entering the body, suddenly makes you sick. From this perspective, we consider the individual stricken by illness to be an innocent victim requiring our assistance because, through bad luck, he or she suffered an unhealthy assault.
The expressions used to speak of illness clearly support this premise. We say that we “fall” ill, that we have been “stricken,” or that we have “caught” a disease.
As a psychologist - (before training in medical herbal medicine), I undertook extensive research to support this inner connection ethos in relation to the patients I was treating.
I can also link this to metaphysical causation, for example why you suffer shoulder pain, hip or knee issues, but that's for another time.
Look within to find the answer.

Tuesday Musings
Like a coverlet that's lifted and shaken from a mattress, the veil of the new day awakens and excites the grateful mind.
Steely skies greet mortal feet, rooted upon wet earth as I step into the unused day.
A magical moment observed in a drop of dew, clinging to each new bud.
I stand under the great boughs of transforming Birch, enticing its icy liquid to elicit change within me.
Drip, drop, drip.....
Friends, may your thoughts be warmed by magical memories, this day.

MY BEAUTY SECRETS
Many people comment on my skin and most are surprised that I use no face cream. Ever.
I've used just 3 natural, chemical free products on my skin for over thirty years:
Rosewater
Honey
Organic unrefined Rosehip Oil.
Once a month I exfoliate to remove any dead skin from my face using honey and rosewater.
I've added an image below of my blend this morning.
Feel free to share.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.....
Sea Mallow / Malva arborea.
As I was walking this morning I came across this beneficial plant. This coastal botanical has many historical uses as a medicinal herb.
In the 16c the leaves were employed for their potential soothing properties, often used topically to alleviate skin irritations or burns. Additionally, some extracts of sea mallow were used for respiratory issues, as it was believed to have mild expectorant qualities.
It's seldom used in modern herbal medicine these days.

I'm often asked why I - (and my husband) choose to eat a 90 percent organic diet. Please allow me to explain the reasons from my personal viewpoint with a smidgen of supporting evidence - without going into the impact of pesticides on non-organic food upon humans / nature / the planet.
It's simple - We choose to prioritise the food we buy and what we eat. We'd rather buy organic food than;
Pay:
*Monthly subscriptions to TV channels / TV licence - (we haven't had a TV since 2015)
*Eating out - we haven't eaten out in a restaurant since 2002
*Store card payments - I don't and have never owned a store card
*Latest mobile phone with costly monthly bill - my phone is 5 years old, my husband's is 8 years old
*Buying new clothes
*Visiting the hairdresser - it's 11 years since I did
*Memberships to gyms etc
*Loans / H.P - we've 'made do' with what we have until we can afford to buy an item through hard work
*Takeaways - we've never had a takeaway in 24 years of being together
*Take out teas and coffees - we have a thermos flask so never need to buy them
*Latest gadgets / furnishings
For over twenty five years I've had a demanding vocation/business working 52 - 65 hours a week, yet never ever purchased a prepacked UPF meal despite not enjoying cooking. That is a fact, I don't.
The last time I was ill was for 3 days in 2008 with a throat infection. I still drove us 250 miles to our holiday destination - I almost fainted at the wheel and I acknowledge it may have not have been the right choice to make. I choose to have an annual health check and last year my physiological rating was aged 41. I'm 53.
We will undoubtedly pay less for our food choices than most other people. Eating consciously is a choice for everyone. The above are just some reasons behind ours.
Pic: Our Riverford delivery.
Blessings to you all 🌿
Did you know:
Both fresh and dried elderberry leaves and stems are poisonous if consumed. (The leaves, however, are used as a topical remedy.) Berries can cause upset stomach or vomiting when eaten raw, so always cook or infuse your elderberries into liquid before consuming.

We've lost it! It's disappeared in just THREE generations.
However.....
We ’re learning the old ways once more and reclaiming our green legacy. We are turning back to the plants again and asking them to share their secrets.
Had we grown up in a different time, our childhood days may have been spent in the garden and the forest alongside a parent or grandparent, helping forage herbs for both food and remedies. We would know the plants like we know old friends and readily harvest one for a cough, another for a cut, and another for sore muscles. Yet today, many you are unsure where to begin.
By maintaining this profile, my page and my new Patreon platform I hope that everyone here, men and women alike, will have a chance to regain a bit of that misplaced wisdom. Wisdom that was yours all along.
These plants within my posts mark the starting point of a herbal adventure that will take you as far as you wish to go.

Lungwort / Pulmonaria
Just a few uses from my clinic - The English Herbalist
Lungwort makes a lovely border herb. Dried leaves can be saved for addition to herbal tea mixtures, especially when treating the lungs.
The roots make a very good edible bush food, steamed, boiled, or roasted like parsnips. This herb is stimulating to the respiratory system, much like its close relatives Borage and Comfrey.
Congestion and deep-seated emotional issues can be resolved with the use of both the herb and the flower essence. The astringent qualities of this herb make it effective in relieving diarrohea and hemorrhoids.
The leaves make useful poultices for external cuts and wounds, as well as over the lung region for respiratory problems. The cool, moist nature of the leaves alleviates hot, dry, inflamed conditions of the lungs, as well as the skin.

This is one of the best health food stores I've ever been in. It's just as good as four years ago when I last visited. Two floors of organic, vegan and veggie wholefood delights.
There's is absolutely no need to purchase UP vegan food and soya meat substitutes with shops like these.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff and even fresh organic vegetables, some which I purchased.
This will be a monthly 'go to' shop. It's well worth the hour's drive.
