He can be nervous of unknown dogs, so we’ve been taking our time to let him get to know us and feel safe in our care by heading to known, quiet spaces so he can remain calm and build his confidence. It’s just one of the ways we tailor our services and prioritise your dogs well-being 🐕

🌞 It’s been HOT 🌞
It’s that time of the year where we start to alter and plain ahead for our walks whilst the sun is gracing us.

So adaptations have already occurred. We’ve been seeking out all our favourite places with water access, shade and grass. Taking refreshment breaks and if dogs have been showing signs of struggling, popping them on lead to prevent them over doing it or even cutting walks short. We’re being extra mindful for our youngsters and golden oldies, and those with health concerns or thick/dark fur.

Your dogs well-being is always our priority ❤️

We are some times asked why this is a requirement for our group walks. There are many reasons, but here are a few of the benefits for you and your dog:

🐾 It helps us build strong rapports with our dogs, meaning they trust us. Dogs can’t explore safely and have fun of they’re not feeling secure.
🐾 It establishes a balanced group. They learn our routines, commands and expectations. This enables the walks to be calm, low stress and fun!
🐾 We get to know their quirks and what's 'normal' for them. This allows us to identify small changes in their behaviours - being less willing/fearful of things they're usually fine with, or not quite their usual self.

These bonds we have are of significant value to the owners, as an extra watchful eye and a extra trusted person for their beloved pups.

Debunk a Myth: Our Job is Easy.

We get a lot of comments when out walking... if it's not 'oh you've got your hands full', it's something that feels more demeaning like 'what a wonderful job to just walk dogs all day'.

Guess what, yeah it is wonderful and I wouldn't swap it for the world, but it's far from blooming EASY!

So much goes into curating a walk: from forming a balanced and social group, picking routes, scheduling walks and travel, being prepped for all weathers, the list goes on and that doesn't begin to consider the mind boggling amount of things that go on behind the scenes.

So top tip; if you see a dog walker going about their work and doing a great job, tell them. It will make our day!

Group Walks are a fantastic opportunity for your dog to explore and socialise with others, something most owners struggle to facilitate on a regular basis.

5 things I love about Good Dog 🐕 ♥️

🐾 The bonds we create with the dogs, especially those we’re lucky enough to still care for 5+ years later.
🐾 Freedom to create services to help people
🐾 Seeing positive changes, as a result of our work. This is my personal favourite and one I’m on a mission to do more of this year.
🐾 My team, they’re fantastic and I genuinely feel so fortunate to have working alongside me.
🐾 Lastly, the business journey. That everything changes each year, the things I loved about Good Dog in year 1 are very different in year 8 or 9!

✨ Round Up Time ✨
We’ve so been enjoying the better weather this last week, it’s felt so good to have the sunshine and explore the areas that have been so muddy recently! Tim’s explored High Ash Farm which is always so pretty in the spring and is great for dogs that need a little more space.

We’ve had some new introductions of dogs which have gone so well, Good Dog Mascot Henry has stepped into old shoes and been an excellent stooge dog. I’m so proud of him and it’s been amazing seeing him enjoy himself in this way too.

We can’t wait for the normal routines return though on Monday, once the Easter break is over for our term time clients. It always feels strange without them 🐾
