On Wednesday 7th December the Village Hall management committee, sponsored by the Poors Allotments Trustees, provided a fantastic Christmas Lunch for the pensioners of East Ruston.
The hall was decorated by the committee and the meal was cooked on site by Chef Norgate.
A full turkey main meal followed by Christmas pudding, coffee, mince pies and a quiz provided a lunch to remember.
Who said that there is no such thing as a FREE lunch? Well for East Ruston Pensioners they would be wrong. Check out the details of the Parish pensioners lunch on our website.

A New Update From Polly
The extension to the rear car park has now been completed and the front car park has been graded. Continued steps to make the Village Hall a hall to be proud of.
Huge thanks to Bill Cordaroy our fantastic local blacksmith who has fabricated a new sign for East Ruston village hall. This and the new road sign at the cross roads with East Ruston gardens will mean that people will be able to find the hall more easily.
Here's a taster for you, the inside of the hall with new lighting, clean curtains and tiebacks. The floor has also been sanded and stained
First area to have render applied
The work has started on the insulation and rendering of the outside walls of the Village Hall
Please be advised that parking will be restricted at the Village Hall as of Friday 23rd April, for a number of weeks, because the hall is having some work to the exterior of the building which requires scaffolding and materials delivery. Precisely how long the work will take is not known as the work is weather dependant but it will be obvious when the work is complete as the scaffolding will be removed.
Any queries please contact 07468202606.
The builders will soon begin the work of insulating the exterior of the hall as well as applying new rendering.
There will be some scaffolding in place for a short while.
The hall will be open for the local elections on Thursday 6th May.
The refurbishment of the bar area is coming along. New worktops and the new sink is nearly finished being fitted but the flooding in the cellar has made it difficult to get access to connect the drain for it. Now waiting for the water levels to subside. It's been pumped out three times now but groundwater levels are so high that it's a constant battle. The recent burst water main in School Road, immediately outside the hall entrance didn't help.
That in turn has made it urgent to fit new guttering over the bar area, the kitchen, and around the back generally and this is in hand. The bar floor has required replacement of one or two floorboards which were rotten. The floor is now being painted.
We have had to curtail installing the new lighting since the current national lockdown was announced. The electrician has not been able to work at the hall at the same time as Lesley and Chris. We are hoping to be done by the end of February, the main jobs, other than the electrics, being to get the doors sanded and re-hung.
The latest news for the Village Hall upgrade is that the floor is being sanded on Monday 26th October and will then be stained.
Some bookings have already been taken for November.
Because of Covid 19 the hall continues to be closed but rest assured work is continuing inside. The walls have been decorated, the doors stripped and the kitchen is being remodeled.
It is planned to have the floor resurfaced during this time but insulating and rendering the exterior will have to wait until the spring.
Covid 19 update - The Trustees hope to reopen the hall in late September/early October. Whilst the hall is closed, the opportunity is being taken to complete some internal work.
The roof is now completed and together with the new front doors looks set to cope with all weathers.
Work continues on the interior and it is hoped to remove the old render and apply new insulating render
The re-roofing is now completed, just the tidying up to do. Some work now being carried out inside so not available for hire just yet.
The cupola has now been repaired and replaced.
The roof is coming on a treat
The Cupola will need some loving care, any offers?
The new roof is coming along nicely.
The re-roofing of the Village Hall has now restarted.
Just to let you know Aspect will inspect and certify the scaffold tomorrow, Friday, with materials deliveries on the 18th, work commencing 19th.
