Our support for survivors in numbers:
In 2023/24 (to end of April):
• 610 people from Norfolk accessed our support
• 8,834 individual counselling and EMDR sessions delivered
• 2,750 contacts with clients through our Groundwork Programme
• 134 Emotional Skills Workshops
• 184 individual sessions and 1,790 unique attendances within our Group Support Programme.

Lots of numbers, and behind each figure, a unique, personal story caused by sexual abuse or sexual violence.

Sadly, demand on our services continue to rise. With more and more people reaching out to us for specialist support.

We hope to one day live in a society where these numbers are greatly reduced, and to see sexual abuse, sexual assault and sexual crime eradicated from society.

Until that time, we are here to provide specialist ther**eutic support, to listen and to ensure survivors living in Norfolk are believed, heard and can begin to heal.
Please, support us if you can. https://www.suelamberttrust.org/get-involved/

After being groomed as a teenager, Donna-Louise reached out to us for support years later. She has bravely shared her story to encourage others to speak out, to help raise awareness of the work we do, and to shed the stigma that surrounds r**e and sexual abuse.

She says she wants to raise survivor voices, be heard, and shed the stigma that is attached to r**e and help more people, particularly teens, understand what is and what absolutely is not okay.

Thank you for speaking up Donna-Louise. You can read her full story here: https://www.suelamberttrust.org/stories/client-story-donna-louise/

Today is world emoji day. Did you know there are 3,782 emoji?

Emoji if you don't know are used in electronic messages to display different emotional cues. While they are there to support convey emotion they can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. If you think about it, do you really know what they all mean and can be sure if you are using them, you are using them for their intended purpose?

Due to emotions being difficult to recognise, process, accept and manage we have developed emotional skills workshops, specialist workshops designed for our clients to explore key emotions and learn techniques to process them.

Anna our digital fundraising and engagement officer recently took part in these workshops and wrote about her experience, which you can read here: https://www.suelamberttrust.org/emotional-skills-workshops/

If you are receiving or waiting for our support and want more information about joining the next workshops please email [email protected]

- Enable someone to receive specialist 121 support with their everyday affairs.

We are looking for more qualified counsellors to join us as volunteers.

Is that you? Or someone you know?

To meet demand, our charity needs more professionally qualified, experienced counsellors to join as volunteers. Because we want to ensure that everyone who needs our support, has a counsellor to talk to, and the chance to heal.

Not everyone can access professional, private counselling, but we believe all survivors of sexual violence have the right to be heard and to get specialist support.

To volunteer, we ask that:
• You are a fully qualified counsellor
• Can commit to 3 voluntary 1hr sessions a week (anything over this will be paid time).
• Are able to deliver sessions either in person (in Great Yarmouth or Norwich) or over Zoom.

In return, we offer a package of support, all clinical supervision paid for, and the opportunity to shape the future direction of our charity.

Maureen, our Psychother**eutic Counsellor, explains more about the role and why she encourages others to join https://www.suelamberttrust.org/counsellors/

If you’re a qualified counsellor, please get in touch. **euticSupport

On Thursday, we cast our votes.

This is a longer message from us than usual, but an important one.

We’re urging our followers and supporters to stop, pause and think about which party is going to do more for people who have experienced sexual violence and sexual abuse. Because together, we can make sure survivors have a louder voice, and get the support they deserve.

Whoever forms the next government, we want to see:
• More investment in mental health and specialist counselling services
• Quicker, fairer action in our courts for sexual assault and sexual abuse victims
• And more investment in the education of counsellors, so that more people can upskill and provide the much-needed therapy that too many sexual abuse survivors are waiting to access.

Because sadly, demand on our charity’s services, and others like us, continues to rise.
Last year alone, 610 people were able to access our support. That’s up on the year before. And we know more people than that need us.

According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales (in the year ending December 2023) 3,361 sexual offences were recorded in Norfolk, many more go unreported. That’s just one year – we see people who have experienced both recent and non-recent sexual abuse, in some cases they have lived with their trauma for decades.

This can’t go on. People have a right to be heard, to be believed, and to have the chance to heal.
With access to specialist ther**eutic support, our charity and so many like us can help people to rebuild their lives.

But without it, or while people have no choice but to wait for therapy to begin (after very bravely reaching out), people continue to live daily with the trauma of sexual abuse. It shouldn’t be that way.

So please, read these 5 points before you vote on 4th July 2024.

You can also head to our website to read our CEO’s message in full - https://www.suelamberttrust.org/general-election-2024-what-we-want/

Thank you for your support.

"You have every right to feel safe, secure and to take back control. Sue Lambert Trust and the professional ther**eutic counselling services they provide, for sexual abuse survivors, are simply wonderful. It’s not easy to go through therapy, but it will, in the long run, help you to heal and move forwards.

“Journal writing gives us insights into who we are, who we were, and who we can become” – Sandra Marinella
