Father and son's charity cycle ride across the USA: 4000 miles, in 80 days, from New York to San Francisco in aid of the Royal British Legion's Battle Back Centre.
67 days, 4046 miles and 144,459 feet of elevation gain later we made it to San Francisco!
Final big hurdle of the trip. Up and over the Sierra Nevada through Yosemite national park!
3 near death experiences in the park, one involving a coach that came within inches of us, the next, a car skidding on dirt while trying to overtake and nearly crashing into us and the third my only fall of the trip after a car flicked up a rock and knocked me off my bike!
Apart from that and the crowds Yosemite was absolutely stunning!
Hoping not to get abducted by aliens…
It’s getting warmer and certainly less green…
A few snaps from our time on the moon with and .filmz
A little detour of route to explore canyonlands national park. Which after seeing all 5 Utah parks is my favourite
A lovely day off to explore arches national park. Still managed to cycle nearly 40 miles though…!
Arriving into Utah! Unfortunately we weren’t blessed with clear skies but the scenery and rock formations were incredible! Good introduction of what is to come in Utah.
Heading out of the rockies! Two punctures on the same tire (later realised it was a fault with the new rim)
Then a day off to explore Colorado’s national monument which was incredible! A little taster of what was yet to come in Utah!
Crossing the rockies was definitely a highlight. A lot of big climbs but the views were worth it!
The great Continental Divide! The highest point of our trip and first time seeing snow since Ohio. Hopefully we don’t get anymore…
6 hours of uphill (5000 ft gain in elevation) then a 2 hour amazing decent into Guinisson. Into a motel at 8:30pm. Our latest finish yet!
Just us and the prairies (and the odd cow)
Cycling through this landscape has been incredible and makes you realise how vast this country is. After over a week of not seeing anything on the horizon we have finally caught our first glimpse of the Rockies! Let the climbing begin!
Week 3 on the road!
A short film of the first half of our bike ride across the US.
Thanks to .chase for the shots of us in New York.
We had an amazing time looking around the National Veterans Museum in Columbus, Ohio. The staff there were incredible and it was awesome to spend some time exploring this museum!
Happy belated Star Wars day from Yoder, Kansas
On our way home…
For those who don’t know, Norwich is the city where we come from in the UK!
Week 2 on the road
Not quite the blue skies we expected…
Now over 1000 miles and 8 states in...........hills, rain, snow, snakes, giant rocking chairs and at last the sun - YIPPEE!!!
We would love you to share our journey. Thank you
George and Joshua Kohler - Biking4BattleBack - Challenge USA. A father and son cycling across USA for The Royal British Legion.
We asked why?
"Having seen how someone can lose limbs, recover and then compete internationally at the Paralympics (and more), and knowing the incredible work the Royal British Legion Battle Back Centre achieves, it was a “no brainer”."
Please, if you can, help them so we can continue to help others:

Week one on the bikes.
After all the excitement and chaos of day 1 I forgot to start recording on Strava oops! But we managed 41 miles in 3 hours 39 and climbed 150ft
And they’re off! 59 competitors and 150 friends and family members are on their way to the Invictus Games in The Hague, courtesy of National Express. We'll keep you all updated on their progress and we'll be sharing updates from the team behind the Team (friends and family) all of next week.
We have outlets everywhere!
This has to be the hardest part of the journey so far! Pushing the bikes through the sand was a real challenge but we touched the Atlantic. Now only 3 months until we do the same in the Pacific!
10:14 3rd April 2022 - the first rotations of the wheels of a 4000 mile bike ride across the US
Thank you .chase for the photo!
Thanks to the guys at Trek Cobble Hill. Fantastic support from Russ, Andrew, Andrew and Caroline in helping us prepare the bikes for our journey across America!
First real challenge of the trip: how many yellow cab drivers does it take to fit our bikes into one of their vans?
Off to NYC!
