September Events Venn Diagram 🔵
We have so many awesome events coming up at our little micropub over the next month, we decided the best way to break it all down was a ✨demure and mindful✨ Venn diagram!

Wed 18th Sep: Make and Mardle 🧶
Wed 25th Sep: Board Game Night 🎲

3 words that perfectly sum up our pub…
1. Cosy: our whole micropub including our cellar, seating, kitchen and toilet is just 334 Sq Ft. That’s proper micro! But we have used every single inch of our space and packed it to the rafters with the very best drinks we can get our hands on as well as plenty of comfortable seating in every cosy corner plus nook and crannie.
2. Plucky: us co-owners, Emily and Elliot along with our friend, Johnny, opened The Malt and Mardle in 2021 after the pandemic with absolutely ZERO previous pub experience. Elliot and Johnny knew how to brew, Emily knew how to do marketing, and that’s about it! Yes, we were horribly naive but with sheer hard work and determination we have managed to survive in a hugely competitive area and during a cost of living crisis.
3. Mardle: the phrase we’ve said so many times we now say it in our sleep! ‘What does mardle mean?’… ‘It means to chat or gossip in the Norfolk dialect, just like we do in this pub!’. Seeing strangers randomly start conversations with each other and have a laugh together is literally the best thing about building and running a pub. The community we have nurtured at The Malt and Mardle is literally the best and we literally love you all so much!
Ok, now we’ve described ourselves in three words, it’s up to you. Drop three words about yourself in the comments below! 👇
Ready for the return of Norwich’s most cosy, wholesome nights? Our pub quiz is back and giving maximum homey autumn vibes 🍂

Ready, set, go! 💨 Saul’s Side Quest 🧙🏼 starting next week for the NR3BeerMile!
Here’s the deats:
💨 WHAT?
Although Beer Hatch isn’t officially on the NR3 Beer Mile (controversial, we know), we’re teaming up with owner, Saul, for a beer mile spinoff.
💨 HOW?
Just visit us at The Malt and Mardle to pick up your clue sheet and amble down Magdalen Street and Wensum Street as you figure out the clues. While you enjoy a refreshing drink at Beer Hatch, tell Saul the magic word (i.e. your answer) and if you get it right, you win a prize!
💨 WHEN? Pick up your clue sheet from The Malt and Mardle between 1pm and 10:30pm, Wednesday 31st July to Sunday 4th August. Figure out the clues at anytime and claim your prize from Beer Hatch between 11am and 7pm Wednesday, and 11am and 8:30pm Thursday to Saturday.
💨 SO THAT’S:
The Malt and Mardle open:
1pm - 10.30pm Wednesday to Sunday*
(Sunday close at 9pm).
Beer Hatch open:
11am - 7pm Tuesday & Wednesday
11am - 8.30pm Thursday to Saturday
P.S- You also get a chance at winning even more goodies by bravely diving your hand into Saul’s lucky dip bowl!
Good luck and happy hunting 🤞
The Malt and Mardle turns 3 today 🥳🎂🤯 the past few years have been one hell of a ride with many ups and downs 📈 but we’re here, still loving what we're doing and that’s entirely thanks to your support!
So here’s to you 🍻 we really do appreciate every single one of you 💖
To celebrate, let’s drink some beer, yeah?!
And corr do we have something special for you because the two beers we brewed with our friends over at Ampersand Brew Co are now pouring at both of our pubs (here at The Malt in Norwich plus over in Aylsham at The Porters Arms).
Choose between the two and let us know your favourite below in the comments!
🌑 The Dark Side (representing The Malt and Mardle) - 4.9% Chocolate Fudge Birthday Cake Stout - Vegan.
☀️ The Light Side (representing The Porters Arms) - 4.5% Hazy IPA with Sabro hops - Vegan.
Also new in:
🧬 Tranquility from Mr Winter’s (4.2% Best Bitter).
🍒 Cherry Boom from Boom (4% Cherry Beer - Gluten Free).

NR3BeerMile Events 🗓️ at The Malt and Mardle 🌾 with friends Ed Le May Design, Beer Hatch and The Q***r Brewing Project 🍺
Not only have we installed a brand new bigger bar in anticipation of a very hands on week during the NR3 Beer Mile, we’ve also got a jam-packed calendar of events for you:
🎨 DRINK AND DRAW WITH ED LE MAY:
Grab a drink, some pencils and get drawing! Our lovely host, local Norwich artist, Ed, has come up with a cracker of an art project for you to work on for this special edition of his Drink and Draw. No need to bring anything or book - just grab yourself a table from 5:30pm on Wed 31st July to take part.
🗺️ SAULS’S SIDE QUEST WITH BEER HATCH:
Although Beer Hatch isn’t officially on the NR3 Beer Mile (controversial, we know), we’re teaming up with owner, Saul, for a beer mile spinoff. Just visit us at The Malt and Mardle to collect your clue sheet and amble down Magdalen Street and Wensum Street as you figure out the clues. While you enjoy a refreshing drink at Beer Hatch, tell Saul the magic word (i.e. your answer) and if you get it right, you win a prize. You also get a chance at winning even more goodies by bravely diving your hand into Saul’s lucky dip bowl!
🌈 Q***R BREWING SHOWCASE:
Because Pride is an all year event for us here at The Malt and Mardle, we’re celebrating LGBTQ+ brewers by pouring some of Q***r Brewing Project’s best beer. Keep an eye out on our socials to see exactly which beers we’ll have on.
Ok, thanks for reading this far and we hope you’re as stoked about these events as we are. Can’t wait to welcome you all into our little pub soon ✌️
Mardle + Porters + Ampersand = Collab Brew Day 🍻👍
What better way to celebrate our little business turning 3 years old this week than by brewing with our good friends at Ampersand Brew Co.!
A big thanks to the brewery team for hosting us last month. It was really nice to take the whole team over to Ampersand’s HQ in Diss, get involved with the brewing process and enjoy some fantastic Ampersand beers.
If you’re wondering about when you’ll be able to sample our brewing efforts, heres’ the deats 👇
🌱🎂 We’ve brewed not one but TWO beers for you to enjoy! One is a birthday cake inspired Stout and the other is a Hazy IPA with plenty of our favourite hop, Sabro.
📅 This Wednesday 24th July is when they start pouring. Both are available on keg at The Malt and Mardle AND The Porters Arms, side-by-side.
Get excited, guys, this stuff is gonna be golden 🥇

KEG / DRAUGHT BEER:

We're the only Norwich venue taking part in this major beer release so head on down and remember, once it's gone it's gone!
It was a busy day yesterday organising things for the NR3BeerMile (especially as there's under two weeks to go 😅):
1. Had a great interview alongside Ed Le May Design (who is hosting a Drink & Draw event at The Malt on Wed 31st July from 5.30) for BBC Radio Norfolk.
2. Then headed round the corner to Norwich Screen Art to approve the NR3 Beer Mile merch (100% of proceeds from sales go to Silver Road Community Foodbank).
3. Then up the road to see Saul at Beer Hatch to finalise our NR3 Side Quest / Treasure Hunt plans.
Lots of good things to come 🎉
THIS IS NOT A DRILL 🚨 there's just 10 tickets left for Saturday's gig night 🎸with yer blooze and Jack Warren. Here's the deats:
YER BLOOZE:
yer blooze is the moniker of Norwich-based musician, Dylan Clarke. Inspired by a multitude of genres, including progressive rock and gypsy jazz, indie rock and English folk, yer blooze’s sound is ambient, melodic and a must-listen for all music lovers. For one night only, yer blooze will be joining us to perform a special acoustic guitar set at The Malt and Mardle. Accompanied by fellow musicians, Reuben on guitar and Matthew on organ.
JACK WARREN:
Jack Warren is one third of the mighty Norwich-based band, Jack and the Giants, and will be performing a special solo accoustic set for us this Saturday. His sound combines folk, grunge, jazz and alt country with songs centred around Jack’s guitar instrumentals. With lyrics centering around relationships to place and the trappings of isolation, confusion, frustration and living in rural Norfolk, Jack’s set in our tiny intimate space is sure to be a touching one.
📅 Saturday 20th July from 7pm
🎟️ Advance tickets available online at; https://maltandmardle.co.uk/product/tinypubconcert-july/
