PE V PU INSULATION: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR MY BUSINESS?
So, as a company you have made the choice to invest in high quality insulation containers to reduce your breakages and improve your return on investment. However, what is inside the containers and which insulation is the best?
WHAT IS PU INSULATION?
PU or Polyurethane is a plastic which for the purposes of insulated containers is expanded in to foam to create a sandwich. Traditionally PU was the insulation of choice due to it thermal insulation properties, it kept things very cold! This was perfect for products such as fish and in processing facilities. But times have change, supply chains are far better temperature-controlled meaning PU is less important in today’s environment.
WHAT IS PE INSULATION?
So why use a PE insulation? Well, PE or Polyethylene is one of the most widely used plastics due to its versatility. The bonding between the PE skin and the PE expanded foam gives and extremely tough, durable and long-lasting product.
What’s more, unlike PU insulation, PE is easily recyclable at end of life. Although, due to the strength you are likely to see far more years’ service compared to PU tubs!
WHY WE NOW OFFER PE INSULATION AS A STANDARD.
As sustainability is important to many companies, ourselves included, we believe offering PE insulated containers is a small step forward in helping eliminate waste and ensure we operate in a circular supply chain. Even though PE material is more expensive it is our strongest belief the benefits outweigh this cost.
