TESTIMONIAL TUESDAY! Another lovely review from one of our customers.
Truth! Always remember not every disability is visible.
Stoma awareness is important because it challenges any misconceptions and prejudice to do with stomas. It helps those with a stoma live with no judgement and help them live life to the fullest with confidence. This is also important for future generations to help them feel confident with their stoma and be able to to talk about it openly.
For most people a stoma has saved their lives, they are able to see their future in a comfort they didn’t think they could again.
Today marks Stoma Awareness Day 2022!
With over 120,000 people living with a stoma in the UK, today is specifically dedicated to breaking down those stigmas and educating people about what a stoma is and what it is like living with a stoma.

Come to gym with me!
Today I was doing weights and abs so it is best for me to wear Level 3 support because I am more likely to cause a hernia if I wasn’t wearing a belt but, on more cardio-based days or a busy day with the kids I will wear level 2 support. I wasn’t always a gym goer but after winning a gym membership and giving it a try, I was hooked. I’ve now been going to the gym for the last 5 years. I love going not only for the physical benefits but also for the health benefits. Having an ileostomy isn’t the end of the world, in fact for me, it was my life saver and looking after my body is the best gift I can give to my body to say thank you. The gym isn’t all about looking a certain way, it’s about being fitter and also a great way to clear your mind.
Make your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile!
After having the surgery, I was told I couldn’t dance anymore, that it was too much core work and after being a dancer for 20 odd years this was devastating. About 4 years after surgery, I won a gym membership and thought I’d give it a go. I looked for support wear and found some level 2 support. This was great for starting out but not for weight lifting so my training was minimal. I then looked for some level 3 support belts but found them quite hard to wear as they felt too stiff on me. I then came across Suportx in January last year and the difference has been amazing. I wear both the Suportx level 3 and level 2 support. Here I am showing you how I put on the level 3 Easy Peel Belt.
Being an ostomate myself, I understand the importance of comfort and when I speak about the Easy Peel belt, I always tell people it’s like shape wear. It’s a very soft and stretchy material which makes you forget it’s even on you. The thing I love most is that I’ve found a belt that not only prevents me developing a hernia but also conceals the bag. The belt moves with you, so as the bag fills, the belt stretches with it and so I have never experienced any problems with the flow of my bag.
Hi, my name is Sandra! I am 37 and I have an ileostomy due to Ulcerative Colitis. I had my surgery in January 2013 followed by more surgeries in 2017 and recently in 2021. I am a mum, a gym goer and a past Irish dancer. I train 5 days a week where possible and I’ve gone back to Irish dancing to train to become a dance teacher. I’m going to be taking over Suportx’s page this week where I will be going through how I live with my stoma and what works for me to make my day to day life easier. Please feel free to ask me any questions in the comments 😃
We have some exciting content next week as we have Sandra taking over our page!
Sandra has an ileostomy due to Ulcerative Colitis and will be showing us how she lives with her stoma. Stay tuned!!
