π Exciting news π Aspiring Careers Ashfield, funded by Ashfield District Council, launched this week at The Holgate Academy.
Aspiring Careers Ashfield is a project dedicated to connecting nine local schools, including Holgate, with top career opportunities for students until 31 March 2025, and will focus on:
- Enhancing career services in schools
- Fostering strong ties with businesses and training providers
- Boosting students' job readiness and aspirations
Guest speakers at the launch event included experts from Ashfield District Council, East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, and Ideas4Careers.
On Friday 12 July 2024, year 10 and some year 12 students enjoyed another Speakers for Schools - East Midlands and East Anglia event. We welcomed several speakers including Head of Documentaries and Current Affairs at Multistory Media (part of ITV studios), Mike Blair. Mike shared his inspiring career journey from journalism to producing major documentaries. Students left with a deeper understanding of media careers and a list of must-watch TV shows.
We are thrilled to announce that The Holgate Academy has achieved the prestigious Artsmark Gold Award, a testament to our unwavering dedication to arts and culture in education. This accolade recognises our long-term commitment and the significant impact of arts education on our students and staff.

Our year 12 and 13 students will be showcasing their art and photography work this Thursday 18 July, 4-5.30pm at Hucknall Sixth Form Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend the exhibition - there's some high-caliber work on display so come along for an early evening event for the whole family π¨.

ππ Our school is proud to support Just Like Us - a charity dedicated to helping young LGBTQ+ people. As part of June's pride month, our diversity prefects along with other members of our student and staff community, came together to celebrate diversity.
Big shoutout to our eight fantastic prefects and one enthusiastic year 10 student who stayed after school to bake delicious cookies and cakes, complete with sprinkles and pride wafers πͺπ
On 28 June, more prefects and some year 9 students joined in to wave the pride flag and sell their tasty treats. The support from across the academy was fabulous! Thank you to everyone for making this event a huge success! πβ€οΈ

Exploring future education options: Nottingham College visits Holgate.
Just before half term, we had the pleasure of welcoming Nottingham College to The Holgate Academy. They came to share valuable insights about A levels, T levels, and apprenticeships with our year 10 students. This visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn more about their options for further education.

Great to see our year 10 students working with Motus Commercials today! They learnt about apprenticeships in vehicle repairs and sales, explored a large HGV truck, changed its lights, and saw the engine. It was awesome to see them so engaged on careers day!
