Last week we had the pleasure of receiving customers onsite at our HQ in Nottingham. We had visitors from Taylor’s University Malaysia and our Malaysian partners Supreme Didactic, Dr Siew Wei Phang and Ms Josephine Ng.
They joined us for two days for an exploration of our HQ alongside in depth training with our technical support manager Ricardo on the Digital Hydraulic Bench (H1F), Impact of a Jet (H8), Process Trainer (CE117) and the Cooling Towers (EC1000V).
🌬️ Explore the phenomena of Boundary Layer with the Flat Plate Boundary Layer Model (AF1300F), a hands-on tool designed to demonstrate the development and separation of boundary layers, perfectly suited for use with the Subsonic Wind Tunnel (AF1300).
🛠️ The model features a flat plate that spans the full width of the wind tunnel’s working section, equipped with aerodynamically shaped blocks placed at various distances from the leading edge. Each block includes five tapping points that connect to flexible tubing, allowing students to measure stagnation pressure at different heights. This enables the exploration of velocity profiles and the growth of the boundary layer along the plate.
✈️ A hinged flap at the trailing edge allows for independent angle adjustments of both the plate and flap, providing students the ability to manipulate pressure distribution and boundary layer characteristics. Small surface tufts help visualise airflow around the plate, giving a clear view of how the boundary layer behaves under various conditions.
🎯 Key Learning Outcomes:
- Observe and measure boundary layer development and separation.

The NACA 0012 Aerofoil Model with Tappings (AF1300B) is designed for use with TecQuipment's Subsonic Wind Tunnel (AF1300), demonstrating pressure distribution around a symmetrical NACA 0012 aerofoil and its lift characteristics. This aerofoil spans the full width of the wind tunnel, featuring 20 pressure tappings—10 on the upper and 10 on the lower side of the chord line.
When fitted in the wind tunnel, the model connects to TecQuipment's Multi-Tube Manometer (AFA1) or the 32-Way Pressure Display (AFA6) to measure pressure distribution. Students can adjust the angle of incidence to observe its impact on pressure distribution around the aerofoil.
