It’s all very exciting!

Work is really progressing now, adding to our already brilliant offer.

As local schools welcome the return of pupils this week, we're encouraging parents, guardians and carers to play ‘a vital role’ in their child’s attendance ahead of the new term.

Evidence highlights more time in the classroom is linked to a child's academic achievements, including results at Key Stage, GCSE and A-Level, while it can also impact on a child’s general wellbeing, their wider social development and future job prospects.

Councillor Mohon Ali, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “We all want the very best for our children and we want to see them reach their full potential and achieve their dreams of being future doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs.

“But we, as parents, guardians and carers, play a vital role in helping them to achieve those aspirations, and this crucially begins with us making sure they are in school learning.

“If they’re not in the classroom, they’re not learning and it’s there where they are getting the vital skills and social experiences they need to progress and develop in the future.

“So as schools reopen this week, let’s get our children back into a routine as we send them to school for another great year of learning ahead.”

Our neighbours at Gallery Oldham have their incredible GO Baby session again tomorrow! It’s the last session before they break for the summer holidays. If you've not been we'd highly recommend a visit, it's the perfect chance to welcome your little one to the art gallery in a fun and relaxed way.

GO Baby is a free-play sensory session for children under two, with lots of toys, books and other families to play with. You can stay the whole time or come and go as you please, it's free and you don't need to book just turn up!

In case you missed it:

Over the past year or so, we have been working closely with the Local Authority to support with their plans for improving SEND provision across the borough.

One of the areas of significant need across Oldham, and the country as a whole, is Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH).

I am delighted to share with you that we have secured funding for building our very own SEMH Resource Provision on the Whitegate End site. This will make use of the Community Room and
be a base for up to 12 children with SEMH needs.

The funding also covers significant improvements to our outdoor areas, including a brand new Forest School and separate EYFS outdoor area at the front of school (see images below).
