Hitting the snap down with Charlie Dando. Key points. Use the collar tie grip to push, pull and twist the head to tilt the opponent over to one side making it easier to get the underhook grip with the other arm. Stay on your toes! Try not to drop to your knees when performing the snap down as it takes weight off the opponent and gives them a chance to wrestle onto your legs.
A reminder for parents and students the next junior grading day will be Saturday 24th August at 9am.

Junior Kickboxing at Power House!See you on the mats.
Mike has developed a solid base skill set now and we are starting to introduce more advanced moves and create angles, alongside that we are bringing in more defensive skills. Here he defends kicks from the opponent and uses it as a chance to counter. He is able to do this as his stance is balanced after each combination and as he moves across the mat. We often bang on about stance and footwork and this is yet another example as to why. Everything starts with the feet!
Jacob Zemlik working on closing the distance and creating angles. Heβs not been at the club long and already keeps his stance well and has great form on his punching and kicking techniques. Not only that but is as game as they come and puts it together well in sparring and interclubs. Clearly a natural athlete he picks everything up very quickly as you can see here in this short video. Weβre really looking forward to watching his development as he continues to grow in the club.Interested in getting your child into martial arts? We have classes on Monday to Friday for children from age 4 all the way to 15. Places always fill up fast in September so donβt hesitate to get in touch to secure their place at the club now or for when they return to school in September!

Tips to keep back exposure when passing the half guard with π₯
Train with Charlie every Friday, Fundamentals 6-7pm & no gi 7-8.30pm
Points to improving punching mechanics.
1. Raising up onto the toes of the lead leg when throwing the cross puts us off balance and makes the punch harder to recover. Vs Joe in the second picture where his lead foot is planted to the floor giving greater stability and the ability to recover the punch back to his base.
2. Joe is up on his toes in both images which is good! however in the first image we can see his foot is still in a side on position, this restricts the amount of rotational force we can deliver from the hip and we lose some of the potential punching power. In the second image you can see the foot has pivoted to be forward facing as he throws the punch, allowing for maximum force and weight into the punch.
3. In the first image Joeβs leg is locked straight on impact with the punch. This creates instability in our stance and restricts hip movement. Vs the second picture where he has a bend in his leg which we would call a more athletic stance.
4. Joeβs shoulder has over rotated in the first image to compensate for the lack of rotation from the lower body. This has sent his punch across his body on a diagonal trajectory instead of forwards. This means his punches force doesnβt travel directly through the target and this means less force and impact travelling through the opponent. Vs the second image where you can see clearly his shoulder and arm travelling forward through the pad!
Ultimately all these small changes have improved Joeβs stability and punching power! So now he hits ryt ard.
