Hello to all new students and welcome back to everyone who’s returning! We hope you’re all settling into the new year well! To introduce ourselves, Tom and I are 6th year medical students at the Hall and will be running this page for the coming year. This page is for medical/biomedical sciences students and aims to answer any questions or concerns that arise during your time at the Hall. We hope to:
- Answer any queries about the course, life at the Hall or anything else academic or pastoral
- Put you in touch with those doing your course in different year groups
- Help organise teaching between year groups as needed, or discuss other useful learning/career opportunities
- Arrange social events throughout the year for medics and biomedics to get to know each other better!
- Listen! (we know being at Oxford can be stressful at times and we’re always here to listen/reassure!)
If there’s anything we can help you with, don’t hesitate to drop us a message here or dm us (Lydia Koffman or Tomasz Szeligowski)! Looking forward to meeting you all throughout the year!

Still looking for a second year medic and a couple of biomedical students to help out with these, shouldn't take more than an hour!

15/09/2020

tl;dr need a few volunteers for a medic and a biomedic freshers zoom chat

One of the first orders of business for this year (aside from Rob's famous welcome drinks of course) is arranging a Zoom chat with the incoming freshers a week before they arrive to allay any concerns about the degrees and talk about all things Teddy Hall.

I'd like to arrange one for the biomedical freshers and one for the medic freshers but I need a bit of help. I'm hoping to grab one third year and one second year medic to join me for the medic one. I'd then be looking for two biomedical students (preferably one in second and one in third year) to run one for the biomedical freshers. Please comment/DM this page or me (Ryan Lea) if you'd be keen and I will sort it out.

Supporting the much younger among us,
Ryan x

A big hello to everyone from Sam, Isaac and I (Ryan) who are now running this page!
We’re very soon-to-be final year medical students for those who we haven’t met. And Isaac is about to jump ship for 4 years to do a DPhil but still very much invested!

We wanted to reintroduce this page and how it acts as a source of support for medical and biomedical students at Teddy Hall during your time here:
* Advertising events that both Robert and any students on here have arranged
* Sharing resources/notes with each other across years
* Contact this page anytime with questions that you think other medics/biomedics across years will be able to answer whether in regards to the degrees or college life- if you don’t have someone to message, message us!
* Organising teaching sessions

It can be a real rollercoaster doing these degrees and life will be different back at the Hall for a while. We’re here to help however we can. Please get in touch if you want to arrange events and/or share resources for earlier years!

Wishing you all the best,
Ryan, Sam and Isaac

Dear all, following our post the other day, we're gonna be a fair bit more active.

One of the things we want to try and do this term is get some more teaching (mainly clinical, but everyone welcome of course). We were thinking this:

Clinical supervision tutes for any 4th or 5th years to practice their exams with feedback

Some in-college tutorials on general medicine and topics such as e.g. "The Cardiovascular Exam" to really brush up on some of the less well understood components of practicing clinical medicine. We are also more than happy to do some knowledge tutes e.g. Everything you need to know about [insert common condition like Pancreatitis]

Let us know what works best, and we'll get in touch to sort it out hopefully soon,

Best
Committee

Hey team, I hope everybody is doing well! Sorry for the radio silence, us sixth years have been occupied with finals and we are all just starting our electives. We are looking forward to revealing all the events that have been in the pipeline and that we will now be able to bring to you, so keep your eyes peeled. In the meanwhile, Yang Xin has kindly offered to share some more preclinical notes with you, which I have added to the google drive folder.
yours,
the committee

Hey people, could you please confirm your attendance by clicking going if you can make it? This way we can maximise booze quality and quantity! See you all on Friday!

27/11/2019

Dear all,

We are proud to announce that we have organised the first social event of the Teddy Hall Medical Sciences Society!

The format will be that of a Champagne/Prosecco drinks reception in the ODH. This will be a charity event in favour of the Movember Foundation and, as such, the dress code will be black tie. Drinks are fully subsidised, we will raise money as a £5 minimum entry donation. This will be a great opportunity to get together with your fellow medics and biomeds from other years, as well as to show our support and solidarity to a charity that is doing really great things in favour of men's health!

In summary:
What: Medical Sciences x Charity Drinks
When: Friday of 8th week (6th Dec), 19:00-21:00
Where: Old Dining Hall, St Edmund Hall
Dress Code: Black Tie
Cost: £5+ entry, drinks are free
No RSVP required, but it would be great if you could let Giangio know if you’re interested so that we can optimise catering for drinks.

We hope to see you all there,
Hall love,

ATMS Committee

Giangio Pre-Clinical Resources - Google Drive 30/10/2019

*Pre-Clinical Resources*
Hey team, as promised here's a link to my preclinical lecture notes, essays, question banks and other generally useful resources 📚 Feel free to use them liberally but please keep them within the Teddy Hall fam.
Unfortunately I used to write in Pages and American English when I first came to Oxford, sorry for that, I will try and convert everything to Word/PDF when I am a bit less swamped with Final year work. Until then, please rely on the generosity of Mac users.
ATB,

Giangio

Hey Hall,

Quick heads up to the fourth years who've already started - I suggest we meet next week in college one evening to talk about the next three years, how you're doing so far and some other things.

To the fifth years and everyone else intereated, we'll also be having some student-led tutorials over Michaelmas term about some important subjects in medicine and surgery to supplement your learning. If over the course of the term you want any topics covered (for any years) let us know and we'll sort it out.

In the meanwhile, I hope everyone else is making the most of the vacation and eager to start their next year refreshed and ready.

Best wishes
Cos

Hey Hall, we are in the progress of organising the socials of the ATMS for the upcoming Michaelmas Term! To start with the right foot, we are keen to hear from you and let you guide us in what interests you the most:
- Like 👍🏻 for an alumnus talk
- Love react 😍 for a fellow talk
- Haha react 😂 for an external speaker talk
Feel free to suggest more options in the comments and we'll make sure we add them to the post!

Just a quick update on the ATMS - I'm sure many of you may have questions as to what our goals are and who we are etc.

The society was created to finally unify the medical student body of Teddy Hall under one roof. Over the next year (and beyond), a committee will be involved in organising events and socials, featuring high-profile speakers, the opportunities for any members of the ATMS to present their research and receive feedback etc, and of course integration of the different year groups in a laid back social occasion.

The ATMS was created by the students here, for the students here. However, we are constantly liaising with college and tutors on how best to serve you guys.

Also, keep an eye on this page and the upcoming mailing list you will be added to automatically. We will be updating regularly as we approach term (apologies to those who have already started!) with our plans for the next year.

As always, we welcome all feedback and questions, and are incredibly enthused at the prospect of working alongside you all this coming year.

Hall love,

Your committee - Cos, Giangio and Jason

The Ann Taylor Medical Society

Welcome to the official SEH society for medics and biomedics - The Ann Taylor Medical Society. This is a network of current and former Teddy Hall medic and biomed students, and serves as a platform to share ideas, organise events/socials, offer academic support or advice, and most of all foster interest in bridging the gap between pre-clinical and clinical courses.

Teddy Hall is now an established medical college at Oxford, and with our tutors increasingly involved in the running of medical school affairs (both pre-clinical and clinical), a group of us thought an established, centralised, and inclusive forum for the students was necessary. Whilst previous societies have served to act in similar ways in the past, we have found that there has been a lack of continuity that has resulted in progressive detachment between year groups. We want to re-integrate all the years under one self-sustaining society, and look to improve the profile of college.

From this year onwards, we will be appointing a committee that serves to establish the foundation for the continuation of this society. Roles will include a President, Vice President, and Academic Officer.

We will also be looking to reinforce a strong alumnus network within the group, and prioritise the exchange of peer tutorials and the sharing of notes and resources at all levels. Furthermore, we will host bi-termly social events and look to organise a high-profile speaker on a topic of interest. These social events will also serve as platform for students to present research topics (e.g. SSM, summer projects etc) and also to meet students in years above and establish a precedent for sharing their wisdom and experience. We will also serve a pastoral role whereby we can confidentially help and advise on any academic affairs, through peer support.
