The Quarry Garden - Oxfordshire. A private garden with a significant height difference between higher and lower levels. Our brief was to create garden focussing on movement and access between the levels. We proposed a wild space in the upper area, drawing on the atmosphere and sense of place the landscape already possessed. In the lower area we proposed a comprehensive change with sculptural walls and staircase curving through the landscape, mirroring and respecting the curves and history of the place, lines that were created within the quarry many years ago. We worked with engineers to specify retaining walls and staircase on this complex site. The planting is soft and textural with dots of colour. The concept for the plants to spill over the hard surfaces really grounding the hardscape within the new garden.
