Hi, I'm Becca οΏ½ Welcome to my woodshop. Inspired by the beauty of nature, I have taken my drawing skills in a new direction: pyrography!
I use a basic soldering iron to create artworks through the gentle burning of wood.
Get to know the locals π³
This year has opened my eyes to a number of new interests, but tree-spotting has been the highlight. I can see the world around me in so much more detail, now. One of the only things we still have in common with our great, great grandparents is the landscape around us. It's fun to know the trees that shape it.
Tiny oak fridge magnet π³
I've been reading a book called The Oak Papers by James Canton and realising that I'm not alone in my fascination for this particular type of tree. They're mystical, nostalgic and essential all at once.
In my garden right now, there's a young, skinny oak tree that stands at about 5 ft 4". My mother planted it as an acorn some years ago and was surprised to see it sprout.
Sadly, it has no business growing to full size in a semi-urban garden surrounded by other houses, so I've found it a new home at an alpaca farm on the edge of the fenland.
Come December, I'll be doing my best to carefully uplift it and move it out there - I expect it'll feel like sending a child to college. I hope it will reach its full potential but most of all hope it doesn't die.
Don't worry if you've already contacted me about a commission - I've got you!
Business is booming and I'm so grateful for all the interest I'm getting; it's so fulfilling to be able to share my art and give the wood a new life while doing so. For the foreseeable, I'll be working on some of your projects and some of my own...
I'm especially looking forward to the upcoming spooky season in October π¦ and Christmas π will be coming up quickly afterwards, so I'm going to be working on special products for my very first market stand!
In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for new products right here π
My latest 'Outdoor Living' set is my favourite, to date. The wood was cut and sanded by yours truly, and I love the way the rings worked with me.
I truly believe that outdoor living is one of life's most important experiences (and one that many people miss out on). It's been a natural way of existing since way back in the beginning of mankind. Trust me, pick up your tent and make the most of the summer. You won't regret it.
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Dr Seuss.
π² If you haven't read or watched The Lorax recently, I really recommend going back and giving it your attention. Sustainability has been an issue of the heart for me since long before I knew what it was called. Even so, it's easy to get swept up in the material world we live in.
Don't forget to look around you from time to time and reassess.
I really enjoyed making this custom coaster set. Having someone in mind for each one gave me a lot of scope for the imagination. To see someone's response to your personal artwork will always be the most rewarding part of the whole process π²π
'The Needlework Nook' π§΅
This was a personal project for my mum, to celebrate the progress towards her needlework cabin where she hopes to run classes in all things embroidery, quilting, cross-stitch, and much more! Her talent is impeccable and I'm so excited for her to finally have a base to work from when the wood cabin is finished π₯°
Today was a treat! I spent the whole day learning wood-turning and pottery with Blended Monkey Crafts over in Wisbech πͺ΅
Louise and Simon were such fun teachers; patient, knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Even the lunch was perfect.
My fridge is starting to look very wooden π²π³
"Morning Paradise" π΄
This piece is for someone special who has fond memories of time spent on the beaches of Thailand and Australia. It's always a pleasure to immortalise treasured memories.
Sprucing up my tree rangeπ² next up is silver birch!
Behind the scenes π€«
Go on, get out there π±
Simple Ways to Discover Wonder in Nature Small ways spending time outside can help inspire you and shape your perspective.
Happy everyone! π
I'm doing a little research on native trees to expand my tree range! Watch this space π³
What's your favourite British tree?
'Midnight Feline'π It's funny how black cat lovers seem to magnetically attract each other. On my first day as a landscaper, I quickly learnt that my trainer Dawn was like me. This little piece is a "thanks for everything" gift which I gave her on my last day π€πββ¬
The third design in my Tipi Livin' range: 'Yamnuska'! ποΈ
This piece was designed specially for a friend I made on my adventures in Canada. Mount was the backdrop of all our experiences working at Camp Chief Hector YMCA ποΈ
I am beyond excited to showcase my first commission! This ski-themed coaster range was so much fun to work on and I'm stoked with how they came out.
Huge thanks to the Thomas's for their order! Your support means the world to me ποΈπ²
Demelza: Head of Packaging π
My first commission is going to its new home!
What could it be?! I'll show you tonight!
I'm so excited to be working on my first commission! It's a secret for now as it's for someone's birthday, but watch this space until the weekend ππ» can't wait to show you!
"Tipi Living", inspired by the two summers I spent living in the Canadian Rockies at Camp Chief Hector YMCA π²
