If you are self-isolating due to symptoms, please do let me know in advance of our appointment. In addition to the above, we do have measures in place that will include discussing the job as much as possible over the phone or by video call.

App My Security's Christmas Guide to keeping you and your property safe from criminals.

1. Light the front of your property.
Invest in a motion sensor flood-light or even some outdoor Christmas lights to highlight your home’s exterior. This will hopefully make approaching your home too conspicuous for someone wanting to break in.

2. Ensure your security alarm is set.
Security alarms can be installed relatively cheaply these days and act as a real deterrent to would be burgulars. Ensure your alarm bell box is fully visible from the front and rear of your property. If you do have an alarm make sure it is working and set during the night and when you are away from home.

3. Festive lighting – be secure.
A common mistake of many festive decorators is to feed extension cables through partially open windows, criminals know to look for this vulnerability. When it comes to outdoor lighting, opt for solar or battery operated lights or install outdoor electrical outlets.

4. Dispose of gift packaging
If you can’t take packaging to a recycling point, make sure you only put your rubbish out just before the collection and do your best to fold boxes so that they do not advertise your new contents of your home to thieves!

5. Invest in CCTV
Domestic CCTV is becoming commonplace. Not only is it a massive deterrent to burgulars. In the unfortunate event that you are the victim of crime the police can look back at CCTV recording giving a higher chance of conviction.

6. Check doors and windows for weak spots. Government statistics show that 30% of burglaries happen through windows.

7. Keep your curtains, drapes and window blinds closed at night, making sure valuable items are out of sight.

8. Secure garages & sheds. Make sure that garden tools or ladders that could be used to force entry into your home are not left lying around or accessible from an unlocked garden shed. Garages are often targets for burglars looking for tools, bikes and gardening equipment.
