Purchased a new Infiray TD50L from Simpson Bros at the game fair last week. What a piece of kit, if you don't have one you've got to get one.

Oh that time of the year again, wasps, wasps and a few more wasps. Stamford, Peterborough and surrounding areas. Give Fieldkraft a call for a quick solution.

It certainly is a steady wasps season and definitely nowhere near as busy as last summer, that said there is still plenty to be getting on with, moles, rabbits and rats are but a few of the problems I have had to manage within the last month. From the evidence so far I think it might be that wasps although steady will continue well into the autumn and that with rodents and rabbits summer will move seamlessly into autumn. Fieldkraft offers a wide range of solutions for all your pest control problems, operating in Rutland, Stamford, Peterborough and East Northamptonshire.

Meet my new mate "Kev" the Kite. Greedy devil fancied gorging on a dead bird behind a fence without thinking how he was going to get out afterwards. Once recovered it took him a few moments to gather himself before flying up into a nearby tree.

I am happy to see so many swarms about at the moment, many seem to finding natural locations in which to make a new home.
If you do find one in and around your property, in a location that that makes their presence undesirable early intervention is essential. If they take up residence in a chimney, simply lighting a fire or turning on the heating may persuade them to leave. Make sure that all holes are filled in brick or stone work to deny access to cavity wall areas. If a swarm is "resting" on a tree or other structure call either Fieldkraft or a local beekeeper and usually the swarm can be removed safely to a new location, with no long term effect on the bees. Remember if the only solution to remove bees from a sensitive area is to chemically treat them, that there is a legal requirement to "proof off," block the access point or holes. Pest control technicians do not like to kill bees and most will not continually return to properties where it is considered not enough is being done to prevent egress in the first place. Fieldkraft has contact with a number of local bee keepers within the East Northamptonshire, Peterborough and Rutland areas, who are only too happy to help. Wasps on the other hand are a different story, if you are not sure capture an image and message it to the mobile number provided and I will endeavor to identify it.

Things are starting to pick up as we move further into spring, with the weather as it has been I can hardly say "warming up." There were initially a lot of Queen wasps emerging from hibernation but the prolonged cold spell may have severely impaired their chance of establishing a nest. The wet weather of the last few days might get things moving a little but that too will be dependent on a rise in the temperature, particularly at night. I am expecting an up lift in mole related work shortly and the usual calls where solitary bees have been mistaken for wasps. If you are not sure whether it is a bee or a wasp, message me an image and I will do my best to identify it. Whilst rats remain a constant I am preparing myself for a sudden explosion of work once mother nature finally decides to take the brake off of spring. It is seasonally a quite time for those involved in the business of pest control, particularly in the more rural areas. There are still the drain related rat issues in more built up areas, the odd mole job and one or two other jobs to keep us ticking over. The protection of red and amber listed birds is also a role I conduct at this time of year, particularly ground nesting birds. Although often a contentious issue there are tools both legislative and physical that we can employ for certain predators and preventative measures that can be used in certain areas for others. If you require any help working through what can be a legal minefield when it comes to this type of species protection and pest control, please feel free to contact Fieldkraft. As an aside has anyone else noticed a real population explosion of rabbits this spring? Rabbits used to make up a considerable amount of my work at this time of year but as Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease (RHD) decimated numbers locally, this workstream all but dried up. Looking at the evidence this spring it might be time to brush up on some old skills. Fieldkraft Pest Control and Wildlife Management, serving Stamford, Rutland, Peterborough and Northamptonshire.

I have to admit that it has been far too long since I last posted on this page. One of the reasons for this has been down to the volume of work. Having provided pest control services to the areas of Peterborough, Stamford, Rutland and East Northamptonshire for nearly thirteen years, I can honestly say that the last twelve months have been the busiest. Whether this is down to more people working from home during the pandemic and as a result see or become aware of pests or whether it is climatic is hard to say. I have seen a real uplift in calls relating to pests such as House Mice and Cluster Flies, whilst calls relating to Rats and Moles remain fairly consistent. Calls for rabbits appear to be rising but we are along way from the position we were prior to RHD becoming prevalent within the area. Fieldkraft is a local service for local people, whatever your pest problem is give Fieldkraft a call.
