As Halloween approaches, it’s important to be mindful of the fact that certain decorations and activities can inadvertently attract rodents to your home. Here's how to avoid unintentionally inviting these unwanted guests:

𝟏. 𝐁𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

Pumpkins and Gourds: These festive fall decorations are appealing to rodents like rats and mice. They will nibble on carved pumpkins or gourds, especially if they're left out for an extended time.

𝗧𝗶𝗽: Use fake pumpkins or remove real pumpkins after Halloween. If you do display real pumpkins we would recommend not leaving them outside over night and place them in elevated or enclosed areas.

𝟐. 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐬

Sweet Wrappers and Crumbs: Whether you’re setting out bowls of sweets for trick-or-treaters or sweets get dropped by kids, sweet treats are a major attractant for rodents. They can sniff out even tiny crumbs or unwrapped sweets.

𝗧𝗶𝗽: Clean up any dropped sweets or wrappers immediately, and keep sweet bowls indoors or in tightly sealed containers if you place them outside.

𝟑. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐟𝐭𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬

Food Scraps in bins: Halloween parties and gatherings often result in more food waste than usual, and rodents will take advantage of poorly sealed bins.

𝗧𝗶𝗽: Ensure bin lids are down and not overflowing. Don’t leave rubbish bags outside overnight.

By taking these steps, you can enjoy a festive and spooky Halloween without worrying about attracting rodents!

As some of the team have just returned from holiday we thought it would be handy to share some of our travel tips to minimise bringing any insects into your home.

𝓣𝓸𝓹 𝓽𝓲𝓹𝓼 𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓷 𝓽𝓻𝓪𝓿𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓲𝓷𝓰

❌ Never put luggage / suitcases onto your bed

☑️ Once you have unpacked at your destination ensure that your cases are closed completely to prevent cockroaches and other insects getting inside your luggage

☑️ Always check your shoes before putting them on otherwise you could end up with a little surprise in your trainers like Robert junior did 😆🪲

☑️ Once home empty your luggage into one area ensuring that no little friends have hitched a ride home in your luggage

☑️ If possible leave your suitcases outside to air and spray them with disinfectant before storing them away again

We have received calls over the years where customers have brought Bed Bugs home with them from travelling which has led to their homes becoming infested and requiring a full fumigation.

Following a few simple tips can try to prevent this.
