Today we celebrate International Day of Charity.

It was originally an initiative to commemorate Mother Teresa's death, who died in 1997 after 45 dedicated years of charitable service.

It's a day to remind us that simple acts of charity can make a huge difference.

Teaser for the weekend to come. Well done to those that took part inour races this evening in aid of Bowel Cancer West. It was lovely to see so many doggies joining in for the first time. We're now getting excited for the Backyard Ultra tomorrow. Come along and cheer on these amazing runners if you have time. They will be starting at 9am at Newnham Estate and running till the last person standing. Last year they made it to 27 hours, do we think they can go longer?

Hi Everyone! It’s been a while since my last Check Your Poo update. So I thought it was about time for a quick what’s Jodie been doing post…..

It’s 8 months since I had surgery. Which feel strangely like no time ago at all. But I am back at work, I started a new job, managed to see Take That in Plymouth, take Erin to see Taylor in London, to hit the beaches of Menorca, turn 47, swim at sunrise, watch lots and lots of Olympic athletes and to wonder if I could do the pole vault, and to feel slightly normalish!

Running and exercise has taken a bit of a back seat while getting back into the routine of life, but I’ve been trying to get out running and swimming when I can and I have the 9 mile Run Devon challenge coming up in September so I will be back pounding the pavements as much as I can!

I had my 8 month check up yesterday. I was so worried! Sensible me knows that it is likely things are ok, and if anything isn’t then we can deal with it, the crazy me catastrophises are the all the what ifs. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about cancer, sometimes it feels unfair, sometimes I feel lucky, often I think ooo is that normal or has the cancer spread. But bloods all came back normal - hurray - and the things I was worrying about the nurses weren’t worried about. So far so good. Next stop is a colonoscopy and CT scan just before Christmas - what a treat! So keeping the positive vibes a plenty in preparation!

So today I feel positive, it’s Friday, it’s pay day, and I am trying to be proactive and sort the things out that I keep putting off. I’m off to see an osteopath tomorrow to look at my dodgy lower back, I’m trying a new yoga class this evening to try and strengthen my wilted core muscles that are contributing to my dodgy lower back, and I might mow the lawn! Big love all do alllll the things you love this weekend and CHECK YOUR POO!!

Are you a Rugby Fan? Would you like free match day tickets to see the Exeter Chiefs play this season? Then we would love to hear from you. We are very lucky to be chosen as a designated charity this season, but we need up to 40 willing volunteers to attend a match and hold a bucket. In exchange you get to watch the match for free. We will also have the opportunity to help other chartity collection days and increase the amount donated to Bowel Cancer West, increasing the amount of matches you can see for free.

Calling all runners and running dogs, we've got the perfect run for you. We've listened to feedback and moved the times back, to give you plenty of time to get to us after work.

Introducing the Newnham 8 Miler and Newnham 4 Miler... A chance for you to run on a private estate on the outskirts of Plymouth.

For anyone who would like to do a 'different' distance instead of the standard 10K or half marathon, join our 'long' 8 miler. This is ideal for those that would like to up their distance but are not quite ready for a half, also great for those training for a Autumn Half marathon or marathon.

4 Miler (1 lap) - Registration from 5.30pm, Start 7pm.
For anyone who would like to do a 'different' distance instead of the standard 5k or 10K, join our 4 miler. This is ideal for those that would like to up their distance but are not quite ready for a 10K or you just want to blast round a loop.

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of our Patron and Co-founder, Mr David Darke.

David was the driving force of the charity for the past 15 years, remaining 100% committed to raising awareness of bowel cancer and raising funds to support research and training.

A highlight for David, and probably one of his proudest achievements was BCW being chosen as Devon County Show charity of the year for 2024.

David will be remembered for his passion, commitment, sense of humour and distinctive laugh.

We wish to express our deepest sympathy to David's wife and family. Our thoughts are with you at this time.
