It’s certainly up there.

Because it, along with your nutrition, your training and your stress each affect one another.

But sleep a bit more so than the rest.

…and when we put aside lifestyle factors (kids, shift work etc.) for just a moment, there are some basic practices that will help you go a long way.

You know what’s great? Food.

You know what’s even better? Eating as much of it as you can whilst still making progress.

But far too many people are quick to become impatient; reducing their calories more and more before they have consistently managed the amount that they should be eating, simply because they haven’t made enough progress.

But let me tell you that restricting your calories more than what is needed is a one way trip to a binge somewhere later down the line - and then you are right back where you started…

So be patient whilst you become consistent, instead of leaving yourself unhappy and hungry by overly- restricting your food.

I promise that by doing so you will set yourself up for far greater success.

How you balance what fuel goes in and out of your body will determine what happens to your weight, whether you go to the gym or not.

But tracking your calories doesn’t need to be a continuous task - just like taking driving lessons.

It’s an optional tool in the box that will help you to make better decisions in the long-term; like having a better gauge of appropriate portion sizes of your favourite foods.

Don’t restrict yourself from what you enjoy. Just learn how to include them better within your day so that you can still make progress.

Club 200 has been in my sights for months, but if before this weekend you had told me I would hit 210kg - I would have laughed it off.

Stoked is an understatement, and there is definitely more in the tank.

Most of my clients go to the gym 3 times per week, some 4, and only the very few more than that.

Giving each muscle group its own training day is unsuitable for them. It leaves too much of a window before training those same muscles again.

Training movements though, instead of just muscles, allows muscle groups to be trained more than once per week; without leaving excessive soreness but also rest days after each session that allow for recovery.

If, but more likely when life throws an unplanned hiccup (kids, work, social life etc.), missing the odd gym session has less of an impact. Missing Monday chest day though may not be such an easily solved issue.

So consider whether the bro, 1 day 1 muscle group split is your best option. Could more frequent, full body workouts be a better suit?
