🌷🌳🍃 A week full of wonderful walks 🍃🌳🌷

‘Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.’ ~ Kay Redfield Jamison.

We love heading out on daily adventures here at MuddyBoots Parkstone!✨🌦️

This week we have developed our physical skills, self confidence and determination by visiting three different parks! 🛝🥰
We have increased our knowledge about tree names, plant names and minibeasts by using our flash cards during our time at the pond. 🌲🌹🐝
We checked upon the froglets and frogs, they are getting bigger and bigger!🐸
We had a trip to the pet shop this morning to buy some birdseed and some treats for one of our cats at home. We had a special treat of some chips from the fish and chip shop to end our wonderful week of walks! 🐱🐦‍⬛🐠

MINIBEAST WEEK
🐝🪱🐛🦋🐌🐞🐜🪰🪲🪳🦟🦗🕷️🕸️

We have loved learning all about minibeasts and insects this week!
We had a lovely drawing activity for the children to engage in, developing their knowledge on insect names, fine motor skills and creativity.
We got our hands dirty digging in the soil and finding lots of bugs.
We listened to some great stories about insects, made our own butterflies and explored all of the activities in the trays.
Our walks were tailored to bug hunting, spending hours in the woods searching for all kinds of different insects.
This week has been great for developing the children’s understanding of the world and emphasising the importance of care and consideration to living creatures.

☀️💛We love a spur of the moment trip here at MuddyBoots Parkstone💛☀️

Today we started the morning down Ashley Cross watching the trains at the station. While waiting for the trains we discussed with the children where they’d like to go today. Collectively we came up with Whitecliff…so we set off ready for our adventure!

We had a great time at Whitecliff, enjoying a picnic style lunch, bird spotting and playing in the play park.
We had a little snack in the shade half way back at the fountain at Ashley Cross to give us an extra boost for the final stretch to MuddyBoots!

We are so very proud of our MuddyBooters and this is what we are all about!🥰

🎵🥁🎻🪈🪇🪘WORLD MUSIC DAY🪘🪇🪈🎻🥁🎵

We were very lucky to have a visit from the lovely Cathy from sound storm. The children had a lovely time listening to the different instruments Cathy played, violin, ukulele, recorders of many kinds and some beautiful singing. She captivated the children and held their attention for the entire time!

We headed down to the field today where we used our musical instruments to create different musical patterns and rhythms. Enjoying a singsong in the sun.
The children who stayed at MuddyBoots enjoyed listening to different genres of music and making their own music, seeing if they could tailor their musical movements to the sounds they could hear.

📝 National Writing Day 📝
Today, we gave the children invitations to play to help develop their fine motor skills, hand grasp, strength, and stability.
There are several key elements needed for children to learn how to write their names. We must work on strengthening their fingers and improving the coordination between their hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder movements.

We had a fun activity with scissors where we set up a hair cutting station using paper tubes. In our quiet book corner, the children enjoyed reading a good book. We worked on teamwork by solving a letter puzzle and practising the alphabet song and the letters in our names. The children had a great time during our "dough disco" activity.
To further their learning, we let our older children pick out the letters in their names and arrange them in the correct order. We also went for a walk to the woods where the children made marks in the dirt and did bark rubbings.

What an exciting day we had! 🤩 Today, in celebration of World Picnic Day, we ventured to the field for a fun-filled outing. We strolled through the woods, raced up and down the hill, and even pretended to be dinosaurs! Once we got to the field, we enjoyed playing football, savouring our picnic, and turning a tarpaulin into a parachute for group games. We had a story before heading back to nursery. It was a wonderful day, topped off with a leisurely walk back up the hill. We're already looking forward to our next adventure! 🥰

‘Nature is not a place to visit, it’s a home.’~Gary Snyder

What a fantastic day we have had! A spur of the moment all day outing! We headed off down to Turners Nursery, we checked up on the tadpoles and frogs and climbed a huge tree with many branches! We enjoyed a picnic by the pond before deciding to stay out the whole day! We walked to the bike tracks, field, play park and ended at sea view for a snack.

Super proud of all the children for their great walking and listening skills!🥰

🍎🍐🍓🍉🥝🌽🥕🫐 Healthy Eating Week 🫐🥕🌽🥝🍉🍓🍐🍎

We have been busy bees this week learning all about healthy eating! We provided the children with multiple invitations to play and new ideas to develop their learning and knowledge. Here’s what we have gotten up to!

🍎We followed the healthy eating healthy movers card during our garden time, throwing and catching bean bags, labelling fruits and vegetables of the same colours and crouching down to grow bigger and bigger into a sunflower. Using our feet as the roots, our bodies and the stem and our arms for the petals.
🍐We planted our very own runner beans! We discussed the components required for our beans to grow. The children collectively came up with sunlight, water and soil!
🍓We took a bus trip to Makkah along Ashley Road for the children to learn and try fruits from around the world. This week we have tried a dragon fruit, Sharon fruit, jackfruit and many more! We extended their learning by researching the countries these fruits come from and learning about the changes in climate.
🍉We took many walks around our local area on the hunt for fruit trees and bushes. We were lucky to find a cherry tree and a blackberry bush.
🥝 We played a matching game, placing the fruits to the left and the vegetables to the fruit, sparking discussions on where different fruit and vegetables grow.
🌽 We made fruit kebabs with a variety of tasty fruits.
🥕Our fruit salad was throughly enjoyed too, with come tasty orange juice!
🫐And it is all about a healthy balance between healthy foods and treat foods so we made brownies and rice crispy cakes!

✨A fun filled week packed with learning opportunity for the children to develop their seven areas of development✨

At Muddy Boots Nursery School - Parkstone we are dedicated to the improvement of knowledge and professional development to improve outcomes for children.
Today Dawn attended the 'Think Bricks' Lego training, which enables children to open up lines of communication and use therapeutic psychology through Lego building to aid children's emotional literacy.
Being able to tailor this training to individual children in our setting will be invaluable in their learning and social and emotional communication and we cannot wait to use this within the setting - and who doesn't like playing with Lego?!!! 🙂

Research shows that outdoor naps can have a positive impact on children’s sleep quality, immune system, mood, and behaviour. Exposure to natural light and fresh air can help regulate children’s body clocks, leading to a more restful sleep. Vitamin D from the sun is also essential for strong bones and a healthy immune system.
Our new outdoor sleeping area has had a positive impact on our children's day, improving sleep and parents have already commented how sleep has improved at night.

🌳🌸🪻💐World Environment Day💐🪻🌸🌳

Today is all about caring for our environment! We decided to focus upon recycling and the benefits to our environment.
We took a lovely walk down to Ashley Cross where we engaged in a recycling game after having snack. We had a selection of images that we had to place into the correct bins. The bins we used were labelled, ‘paper and card’, ‘compost’, ‘garden waste’, ‘glass’, ‘cans’ and ‘plastics’. The children worked as a team to place the pictures into the correct bins!
We discussed the recycling symbol and added new words and definitions into the children’s vocabulary such as decomposed and decay.
We ended our walk by playing with the new play equipment and a trip to the train station, we were very lucky to see three trains!🚂🚂🚂

04/06/2024

Today we met our brand new nursery pet ‘Simon the speckly snail’ (as affectionately named by the children!)
The children talked about how different he was to a garden snail, what we would need to do to look after him, what they liked to eat, how we should hold him and then a few of the children were brave enough to give it a go! We cannot wait to look after him every day and settle him in to our muddy boots family! We would like to thank Jan from muddy boots for entrusting us with Speckly Simon!!!

🌳🍂🌻Outdoor Classroom Day🌻🍂🌳

Outdoor Classroom Day is exactly what MuddyBoots Parkstone’s is all about!! Here’s how we’ve celebrated!✨

🌳We wanted to take the indoors outdoors! We created a cosy den area and built a pretend campfire to enjoy our morning story. The children loved reenacting the Little Red Riding Hood story, displaying great concentration and participation throughout! It really grabbed their attention.
Once our storytelling had come to an end it was time for snack! The children helped to grate and cut up the carrots in our den and enjoyed listening to the birds while eating.
We took our construction toys and tools along to the woods, allowing the children’s imaginations to take the lead, they used their imagination to create scenarios and games.
It was lovely to see the children continue their play based upon the story we had just read. Independently retelling the story to each other, referring back to the book for guidance.
We took a walk further into the woods where we found several snails. The children came up with the idea to create a home for the snails! Their very own woodland habitat create by our super caring MuddyBooters!!
This afternoon we have made bird feeders to take to the woods and to hang up in our garden to help attract more birds into our well loved places!🥰

Don’t forget our open day on Wednesday 29th May!!!

🧮💯🔢National Numeracy Day🔢💯🧮

Today we focused our learning around numbers! Setting up various invitations to play for the children to actively participate in.
We took a stroll around the block hunting for numbers! The children throughly enjoyed spotting the different numbers within their environment.

🎨🖌️👩‍🎨Artist Wednesday👩‍🎨🖌️🎨
A couple of weeks back we focused upon the artist Pete Mondrian and the links between his artwork and the Pete the cat story. We wanted to make connections between Mondrian, Pete the cat and numbers. We stumbled upon the artist Jasper Johns. The children used their fantastic fine motor skills and creativity to complete a masterpiece!

🌸Don’t forget our open day on Wednesday 29th May! 10am-12pm🌸

🦖🦖🦖 Dinosaur day 🦖🦖🦖
Yesterday was ‘Dinosaur day’. We provided the children with exciting and engaging invitations to play and extend their knowledge. We used different levels of play to develop both their gross and fine motor skills as well as different sized dinosaurs to extend their size language. This also built on the children’s vocabulary of larger words such as herbivore and carnivore. This built on the children’s existing knowledge after we had already had a visit from a real life dinosaur on Monday. The children had a visit from Georgie’s bearded dragon. They were all very calm and caring, listening to facts and talking about his needs. What an exciting week we are having!

DON’T FORGET it’s just one week until our open morning. If you are looking for a space for you child from September, please come along between 10-12 to the setting and chat to the staff. (Information attached in the photos).

🐝🐝🐝We are BUZZING to tell you about BEE DAY🐝🐝🐝

🐝Bee Day is one of our all time favourite days here at MuddyBoots Parkstone!🐝

🐝Yesterday provided us with lots of learning opportunities for educational play. We discussed that bees live in bee hives, they collect pollen and nectar and that they make honey!🐝

🐝We purchased a block of honeycomb for the children to use their senses to explore. We also had another variation of honey on our toast for our snack.

🐝We created a bee hive sensory tuff tray, this required the children to use the tongs to fill their our bee hives with yellow and black rice.

🐝We had a fine motor bee game for the children to encourage, working on their colour matching and fine motor grasps.

🐝A bee matching game and a flower stacking game.

🐝Bumble bee stories.

🐝What a BEE-utiful Day🐝

🍓🍅🌸🌻 Getting Our Garden Summer Ready 🌻🌸🍅🍓

This week we have been planting some fruit and vegetable seeds and some lovely plants in our planters. The children have loved getting stuck in filling up the planters with soil, sprinkling the seeds around the soil and watering them to keep them hydrated!
This is a great opportunity for the children to learn about the components of what a plant needs to grow and about the process of growth and decay.

We cannot wait to sample our homegrown produce!!
