Under 9s
Today we welcomed North Dorset to the rec for our first fixture of 2024 we split into 2 teams and played some really competitive and fast paced matches against a good North Dorset side. Both sides showed great discipline and teamwork. Todays player of the week was Blair who made some Superb covering tackles and ran some lovely support lines. Next week is training at home.
Have a great week.

Today we welcomed North Dorset to the moor, , for a joint training session & some games of tag. It was a bright & cold morning, perfect for rugby.

We started with a joint warm up & a game of tiger tales. Then split the U7’s & U8’s for passing drills & games of tag.
Great rugby was played by everyone, really good to see lots of smiling faces.
We finished with a both age groups coming back together for a big game of sharks & fishes!

We asked the North Dorset coaches to pick our players of the week.
For the under 7’s they picked Lenny, some great play & he stood out from on the rest.
For the under 8’s they picked Alex, for great play & sportsmanship.
Well done both & everyone.

The next two week are regular training sessions, which will give us some time to work on skills & and great opportunity for any new players who would like to give us a try as the first two sessions are free!

Also we are starting to think about next season & we need sponsorship to allow us to keep the cost as low as possible so more kids can join us for fun every Sunday morning.
The new player of the week picture frames are an example of what we can do & how a company logo can be displayed. I’ve used two long term sponsors/supporters of the club. Their logos are on the kits & seen week in week out by everyone.

Thanks

Coaches Ben, Rob & Mark

Back to rugby in 2024!
This Sunday's u10 Player of the Week went to Dan. He has consistently performed at a high standard over the first half of the season and excelled at every part of his game this week - teamwork, tackling, passing and attitude to name a few that saw him get his just deserves. Well done, Dan!

Under 9s
Sunday was our first session back after the Xmas break in near perfect rugby conditions. We've been working hard on our tackle technique and support plays in some new drills. Which we put into practice in a training match which saw us award player of the week to Chloe who made more tackles than we could count and ran some great support lines excellent work. Next Sunday sees us at home to North Dorset so would be great if we could all make it for the first fixture of 2024.

We returned to rugby on a sunny Sunday morning with everyone in high spirits. With a lot of standing water on the recreation ground we had to move from our usual pitches but the ground was still very soft underfoot.

We did things a little different this week after a short warm up & with the help of a couple of parents, we had four skills drills set up & in small groups the guys rotated round them all. It kept everyone moving on a cold morning. It didn’t leave much time for a game of tag at the end, but we squeezed one in for each age group & some great rugby was played.

Picking player of the week is never easy & everyone was full of energy looking to impress. We had a tough choice.
For the U7’s we went for Harrison, he was determined to get the drills right & did a good job in the tag game.
For the U8’s it went to Alex, he was very good in the drills, & not messing about when it could have been easier to join in with everyone else. He was also very good volunteering to change sides in the game to help keep the numbers fair.
Well done to both of them.

Next week we have north Dorset visiting, so more time will be given to tag rugby.

We have space for more kids to come join us, however as today showed when we have more helpers we can do different & often more interesting things each week. You can never have too many lending a hand.

Thanks,

Coaches Ben, Rob & Mark.

As a special last training session of 2023 on Sunday, we replaced the usual egg-shaped ball for a cuddly sprout!

Player of the Week went to Kyrylo, who was all over the pitch today. He was presented with the cuddly sprout rugby ball for his efforts.

We then headed up to the club house for a festive party!
A big THANK YOU to the parents for bringing the party food and to our generous community for donating raffle prizes.

We're taking a few week's break so the coaches can spend time with their families and get 'festively plump'.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all in 2024.

Decent weather for mid-December as we held our last training session before Xmas.
We did a bit of running & passing to remind everyone we run forwards & pass backwards. Some tag taking & then some tag rugby.
We played sharks & fishes instead of dodgeball for a change to finish.
Then on to our Xmas party & raffle. Everyone had a great time & thanks again to all those donating prizes.

Players of the week was tight, however the last two in sharks & fishes were given the trophies. Well done Bodie (U8’s) & Jaxon (U7’s).

We’re back Sunday 7th January for training to prepare for the visit of North Dorset the week after.

Have a good rest, enjoy Xmas & see you all in 2024.

Thanks Coaches, Ben, Rob & Mark

A wet away fixture at Dorchester Rugby Club saw 2 of our u10 sides test their might against the home team.

2 soggy Players of the Week were awarded for exceptional performances.
Both made their presence felt by the opposition, were quick at the breakdown and played a key role in uniting the team.
Well done, lads!

A trip to Dorchester this Sunday, a wet & windy one for the under 7’s & under 8’s. We all stayed together for the warm up games. A new one & a variation of one of our favourites.
Then in to a game of tag. Everyone played well. It was great to see the passing & support play. Some great tag taking, & try scoring.
It was very wet & a few were getting cold by the end. We finished with bulldog (sharks & fishes / space invaders - same game many names)

For the players of the week there can be only one from each age group. For the under 7’s it was Honor, she took a ball to the face, but composed herself to carry on as if nothing had happened.
For the Under 8’s the player of the week was chosen by the Dorchester coach. He picked Leo, for two reasons, one showing great fair play & honesty when asked about tag taking & scoring a try. But also becuase there was a visible frustration at times, which nearly bubbled over. However he kept his cool & pushed through to keep playing & control his emotions.

Well done to both & everyone. Hank you Dorchester Rugby Club for being great hosts.

Next week we are at home for our final training session before Xmas followed by our Xmas party & raffle draw. There I are plenty of ticket available & time for more prizes to be donated.
We do need all prizes either previously promised or new, to be with us Sunday morning at training so the party can start without any issues.
As in previous weeks a massive thank-you to everyone who has offered prizes & brought tickets so far.

We’ll do a separate post listing all prizes & thanking everyone involved.

See you next week,

Thanks,

Coaches Ben & Rob

We're really pleased with the way the team has come together and welcomed new players. That's 20 players on the register each week, nearly double what we had the start of the season.
We are still welcoming children in year 5 and 6 (especially girls). If you know a child who'd like a few free sessions of rugby, please get in touch.

U10 Player of the Week went to Hollie for consistently supporting her teammates and for putting herself in challenging situations. Hollie is always thinking about her team and ways to support them. Well done, Hubbs!

With the recent icy low temperatures & forecasts of rain for this morning. We kept the under 7’s & Under 8’s session simple today.
A sensible warm up, some tag taking & evasion games plus a bit of time looking at & practicing our passing. Remembering all passes are rockets from our pockets & the ball goes where our arms go.
We changed up the tag games to encourage team work & to ensure everyone was involved.
As usual we finished with a game of dodgeball.

Everyone did well, however there can be only one (from each age group) player of the week. For the Under 7’s it is George, he is growing in confidence & getting more involved every week, scoring his first try this week.
For the Under 8’s it is Theo, he did well in the drills, concentrating well to push himself.

We have space for new members, but also need more coaches.

We are getting closer to our grand Xmas raffle in a couple of weeks. Tickets are available, we sold the first few this week. The prizes are coming in & looking great.
As the last few weeks thanks to the below for donations & helping the club raise much needed funds;

Mathmos Originals
The Red Lion, Poole
CLACK OFF CLOTHING
Sapphire51
The Fitness Formula -studio

The Tank Museum
& everyone else offering bottles & chocolates & cakes etc.
