It’s so lovely to have fellow dance teachers join our Advanced Tap classes for the summer holidays while they have a teeny bit more free time in the evening! 🫶

I always find it quite scary going to dance classes now that I’m an adult!!! But have absolutely loved the last two weeks tapping with Sonia Lawson Low-Impact Tap & Advanced Tap with Sonia Brown these shoes have had a good work out and so has my brain!!!! Who else has been practising their dancing during the holidays?! Don’t forget about “Better when I’m dancin’” there will be plenty of new dances to learn come September!!!

What a fabulous Monday! 😄 For many it can feel a little tricky getting going at the beginning of the week, but for me I have an energetic collective of students who provide me with positive attitudes, an abundance of laughs, and lots of patience as I try and communicate extensions to our choreography for the first time. 🌟LOW-IMPACT TAP 🌟

What is it? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Having witnessed first-hand various adults struggle with the high-impact nature of general level tap classes, alongside seeing the enjoyment a gentler version of ballet brought to our Silver Swans students, in 2020 (mid pandemic) I created my tap dance equivalent -Low-Impact Tap!!

Low-Impact Tap has no upper or lower age limit, meaning it is accessible to ANYONE who’d rather not spring around on their toes for an hour (for whatever reason; body pains, fitness level, personal preference…). Instead you are able to learn real tap technique whilst staying grounded to the floor.

Although we are a ‘low-impact’ dance class do not let that fool you! We can certainly raise your heart rate, improve balance and most definitely increase coordination. Alongside this, you’d be able to tell your friends that you’ve mastered timesteps, the full shim sham shimmy, buffalos and maxi-fords… all without a single jump. 💅

My lesson content is carefully thought out prior to the start of term to ensure its attainability for absolute beginners, whilst progressing everyone at a good pace towards our next small accomplishment. So yes, you CAN go from 0 tap experience to a speedy Tack Annie in 5 lessons (as our newbies managed last term). 😉

Alongside this, my students dance to a varying range of music genres from all the decades (I do love a snazzy new song, but LOOOVE the retro bangers when it comes to gelling them with tap dance). Rest assured, no plinky plonky exercise tracks used here!

On top of all this, and most importantly, is the camaraderie our students share. Dance has huge well-being benefits and this is due to the fantastic friendship groups we form while we cry our eyes out with laughter during our tap classes.

So if this sounds like the hobby you’ve always wanted to try, or this is the first time you’ve even considered learning to dance, JUST DO IT! (Swoosh ✔️)

I’m baaaaack! 👋🏻 But this time, MARRIED EDITION! I am now legally a Lawson, but professionally speaking still a Brown (because I am NOT building my SEO from scratch again 😆) Ring a ding ding!! 👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏻‍♂️ Here are a few pictures as promised! The day was beyond perfect and we had the best time ever!

We’ve had a week off followed by a week of wonderful cover teachers whilst I’d been getting married and honeymooning with my new husband Rob 🦖 and now I can’t wait to see you all this week. You may or may not be pleased to hear that EVERY class is doing a fan dance this term because we’re warm AND sexy 🔥😉🫠

Awww tonight really marked the end of an era. It was our last ever session in Frank Hutchings Hall -my longest running venue hire. Some of my students have tapped there for nearly 20 years!!! (I adopted the class from another teacher exactly four years ago this week!)

We’re still around in Thatcham on Wednesday evenings, but are relocating to SPURCROFT PRIMARY SCHOOL where we’ll have more space to flex our tap muscles!

This still feels so surreal… last night instead of being driven to my mother-in-law-to-be’s house for a meal with both our parents, Rob “accidentally took a wrong turn” into Sindlesham Court where I had a SURPRISE HEN PARTY WITH OVER 50 OF MY STUDENTS!!!! 😱🤯😂

I literally had 0 idea until we were driving into the car park and Rob wasn’t turning around and started being weird 😂 I can’t believe everyone went to so much effort to celebrate with me and feel so incredibly lucky to have such a big family around me ❤️

Thank you to my sister and my mum for organising, dancer Jane for helping out with the venue and all her wonderful colleagues at Sindlesham Court, my friends Tammy, Seron and Charlotte for helping set up and pack down, and all my lovely lovely ladies who came looking so glamorous ready to bust a move on the dance floor!! 🌟🪩❤️

CHIRP CHIRP! It’s now our Easter holidays for three whole weeks!! 😲🐣🐰

That means that on the week commencing 24th April is the PERFECT time to join us!

Why? 🙉

We run our classes as short courses, typically 5-6 weeks long. Each time we restart, we have brand new choreography, with new steps and exercises to focus on.

By attending regularly it allows us to progress gradually across the term, allowing returners the opportunity to expand their knowledge, and newbies a chance to build a good foundation. That’s why our dancers are so AMAZING!

This is the perfect time to join us if you’re a novice as nobody has a head start -we’re all learning together from the beginning!

Having so many familiar faces in the crowds made a HUGE difference -particularly as we were on the slower end of the race and lots of the cheers, crowds and music had packed up! This weekend my sister and I will be running the Reading Half Marathon! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

We’d love to hit our £500 target for the charity Wellbeing of Women -an amazing organisation that leads research into female medicine (which is typically under-researched in comparison to mens), alongside raising awareness to battle stigma. Their campaign calls for employers to support those experiencing the menopause at work.
