Nikki Iles, award winning pianist and composer, brings her superb 18 piece Jazz Orchestra to The Y Theatre, Leicester on Thursday 20th June 2024. Winner of the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Ensemble in 2020, the band is made up of some of the biggest names on the contemporary British jazz scene and will play some of Nikki’s original compositions and arrangements.

Great weekend - our second of the season - on Saturday three groups looking at Along Came Betty Keep Me in Mind and Smatta - on Sunday one group on One For Amos Triste and Time On My Hands and another working on accompaniment skills with Andra Sparks on Monk’s Dream Everybody’s Song But My Own and The Masquerade Is Over. Lovely tunes and great input from our guest tutors Mick Foster Arnie Somogyi and Dominic Ashworth. Well played everyone!

Sad news - I (Nick Weldon) played many times for the Americans he used to tour round the UK in the 80s and 90s. He was a lovely guy and a great promoter of the music. Wicked sense of humour as well! RIP Ernie.

Sorry to say, Ernie Garside passed away peacefully yesterday, he was an amazing 91 years old, what a great life he had, lets all celebrate it with some good stories and memories.

Monk's FIRST recording of 'Round Midnight - 1944 Recorded at Baron Timme Rosenkrantz's apartment in 1944, this is the first recording of Monk playing what would become his most famous composition.

Immensely sad to hear that Trevor Tomkins died this morning. He passed away peacefully, at 3.43am, after a long illness. He was a great friend to me, and a guiding light in music - I will miss him immeasurably.
