Due to popular demand, we added ten additional mock exam dates at the Altrincham Football Club. These sittings will begin at 11:30 am after the first sitting has finished. Collection will be from 1:35 pm. Please note that if you have already booked a mock exam with Newell Tuition, avoid selecting a block you previously chose. Our mock exams will use identical papers to the previous blocks. We do not advise booking the same block twice as this will dampen the authentic experience for your child and will not simulate how the actual exam will be.

Try our odd-one-out Verbal Reasoning question.

Last week, we had a few good guesses, but water was our official answer as we can't have a quantifiable amount of water (e.g., "How many waters are over there?" doesn't make sense).

This week, in honour of spring, we're looking at 'nested' words, which can be found within other words. You may see quite a few going on here, but there's a clear pattern with these nested words that leaves one as the odd one out. Comment your answers below.

Dates for your Diary!

Remember to complete your child’s application form for the Trafford entrance exams before the June 21st deadline! You can visit each school’s admission page using the links below. Admissions for Loreto will not be accessible until June 29th and will be open until July 30th. St Ambrose’s admissions deadline is July 12th.

The application takes around ten minutes and asks for basic information on you and your child. Please note that the Test Centre (where your child will be taking the exam) is not related to your preference of school; it is just the location where your child will be taking the test in September. You will only need to make one application where you select each school you’re interested in your child attending. While this may seem a chore, it’s important to finish it early, so get it done today! Each year, a handful of people forget to complete their application and ask us for advice, so make sure you’re not one of the unlucky few.

Earth Day is a special day we celebrate every year on April 22nd to show our love and care for our planet. It all started in 1970 when a U.S. senator named Ga***rd Nelson wanted to raise awareness about environmental issues and make people understand the importance of protecting our Earth.

He organised a big event where people from all over the country came together to talk about ways to take care of the planet.

Many people were worried about pollution and other environmental problems at the time. They wanted to ensure that the Earth would remain healthy and beautiful for future generations.

The event was a success, with over 20 million people participating in the first Earth Day event! Since then, Earth Day has become a global event, and people all around the world celebrate it by planting trees, picking up trash, and spreading the word about how to protect the planet. Even though we are small, we can make a big difference if we work together to take care of our planet.

Talk to your child about what world earth day means to them. Have your younger children try our fun wordsearch. There’s also plenty of events in Sale and Altrincham to promote sustaimable living.

Each year, we celebrate art on April 15th to reinforce the links between artistic creation and society, encouraging greater awareness of diverse artistic expressions and cultures. Children must be introduced to the wonders of art. Recognising children’s agency is critical to nurture their creativity and imagination, and is central to creating their self-identity as an artist, or not! ��

Optical illusions are great ideas to show children that there’s more than one perspective of seeing something. The images on this post use a Zöllner illusion, where the central aspect of a simple line image is distorted due to the aspects of other images and intersecting shapes. Understanding illusions can play a part in Non-Verbal Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning, so try to introduce other optical illusions to your child so they can read between the lines in their next NVR practice paper!
