Please help us support impoverished Gurkha veterans, their families and communities in Nepal. Today, The Gurkha Welfare Trust works in both Nepal and the UK.

The focus of its work is caring for the elderly Gurkha soldiers and their widows in Nepal who are dependent on the Trust for a secure old age. It provides a monthly Welfare Pension, a winter fuel allowance and emergency hardship grants. It also looks after all their medical needs, from GP care to long-term hospital treatment. For those unable to live independently, the Trust offers residential car

A day where we promote an understanding of disabilities and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of those living with disabilities. Life in Nepal can be challenging, especially for those with disabilities. We provide disabled children of Gurkha veterans with a Disability Support Grant because we understand that with no state medical and financial support, the challenges brought on by a disability can prove insurmountable. Our Pensioner Support Teams are at the heart of our work and spend much of their time on field visits which can involve hours or even days of travelling to reach pensioners living in remote villages. Travelling by 4×4, motorcycle, or even on foot, they visit our most vulnerable veterans and widows deliver their pensions, carry out health checks and bring vital medical supplies. Read More:

Supporting our veterans when tragedy strikes. Gurkha veteran Gyan Bahadur Rai & his family tragically lost their home to fire in October. The GWT team in Nepal have visited Gyan and have agreed to build them a new Earthquake Resilient Home. "He is so happy and thanked GWT and expressed his gratitude from the bottom of his heart".

Over 90,000 Gurkha soldiers served in the British Army during World War One, of whom more than 20,000 were wounded or killed.

Nepal is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to natural disasters, particularly seismic activity. Our Area Welfare Centres are the beating heart of our operation in Nepal, they play a vital role in providing welfare support for veterans and their families. We recently conducted seismic vulnerability tests on our own building structures and found that immediate action would need to be taken to ensure the stability of six of our Area Welfare Centres. GWT staff in Nepal welcome Tek and his wife to their new earthquake resilient home. 81 year old Gurkha veteran, Tek Bahadur Rai was living in a temporary home that he built himself.
