10 years ago we welcomed Molli Candler as our first ever member of staff along with Andrea Martin who used to be landlady.

waterhouse Bar is back open this evening, we are testing the water in the times we feel are viable. Space is limited and its first come first served, we dont take bookings for tables unfortunetly. please Sanitise your hands on the way in and provide your details!!

we also cannot provide music at the request of the police and council who feel its impossible to follow guidlines due to music volume etc , it is also not viable for us to do so anyway at 30-35% capacity seated, background music will be low but ambient and our full music USP will resume when social distancing ends!

also our new opening times are resticted to the weekend as a pilot. we will be closing around 12.30am isnstead of 2.30am as a resposible operator.

Due to lots of messages enquiring about if we are open Saturday we thought it best to let you all know what our plans are here at the Waterhouse.

As we all know the Waterhouse is a Live music venue/Late Bar, we also have no outside space and we are an extreamly small compact area. The latest government guidlines means we cannot provide live music and any music must be just background music only. we take our responsibilities very seriously and would have a raft of guidlines to be covid safe, given standing is also not permited that leaves us with around 8 tables that can fit aprox 32 customers in, but in reality we might only have an average of 20-25 as the perfect number of customers per table does not always materialise! Also we would have to have 3 members of staff to provide a safe enviroment which would average out as double the wage bill for 20% of the turnover.

Morally we feel we would have to shut at midnight at a maximum as nighclubs have not been given the all clear, legally we can open till 2.30am but feel managing the customers and stopping them interacting would be challenging at best after midnight and possibly before as inhabitions slacken. come on boris and co use your intiative and put a closing time in the guidlines to avoid pubs with late licences opening past midnight!!!

To add it would be unviable for us to open and its not going to be much fun all round. we look forward to things improving regarding relaxation of rules but feel now is not the right time to open. we will be back one day and will ride the storm out and look forward to being a part of your night out in the future.

We would like to announce that from Sunday we will be shut until further notice. Given the government guidelines are to stay away from pubs we feel we have a moral obligation to our staff and customers to keep them safe.

We have not taken this decision lightly but feel as the Waterhouse is a confined space it’s likely that anyone infected will spread the virus.

However we are in line with the government strategy of healthcare delay and would like to reassure our customers that Covid -19 is very low risk to them if they are fit and healthy.

Further more what we are worried about is people with elderly friends/relatives.

If you do come in to the Waterhouse at the weekend do so under the promise you will not be in contact with vulnerable people and self isolate.

Therefore it is your judgement and your choice to protect others with your actions.
