Here is a story from one of our Link Worker Coaches:

A lady I am supporting started our telephone appointment by stating that she was dreading my phone call. We explored the reasons behind this and the lady revealed that she had real anxiety around speaking to people over the phone, particularly those she did not know. A major priority to her is to move to alternative sheltered accommodation, as her current home was not suitable for her. In order to do so, she needed to make a telephone call to South Tyneside Homes (STH), which she did not feel strong enough to do. By the end of our appointment, she said that she was going to phone STH straight after our call whilst she was feeling confident enough to do so.

Feedback from a lady at the end of an appointment with a link worker:

"I feel really motivated after speaking to you".

Since getting support from First Contact Clinical, the lady has started daily walking, got back into passion for baking and made tarts for neighbours, has applied for jobs while waiting for wise steps, made plans to meet friends for lunch and has got a volunteering opportunity. This person was previously very upset and crying during appointment due to low motivation yet desire to change. Link worker used agenda setting to support her to identify areas she'd like to make changes in.

The lady said there was no point in baking because she was on her own and had no one to share them with. Her link worker used reflections and open questions to support the lady to reframe her thoughts and see the value in baking for enjoyment. Following the appointment, the lady proactively reached out to her neighbours to share her baked goods.

A good news story from one of our friendly Link Worker Coaches:

A person who was feeling depressed and anxious at the start of the call, stated that she was feeling much better after having a conversation with the Link Worker Coach. She is now going to eat healthier and more regularly. She said she was unsure about having the COVID vaccine, but is now contemplating getting the vaccine. She said she was so pleased she had picked up the phone and that she was feeling happier and that speaking to the Link Worker Coach had given her hope for the future again.
