CubeSat teams commence critical review of their satellite designs Two advanced teams participating in the second edition of the “Fly Your Satellite!” programme have just spent four days at ESTEC, ESA’s technical heart in the Netherlands. Their mission: to attend the Critical Design Review (CDR) workshop.

For the past few weeks, the interns have been working hard to get the final Data Package ready for ESA. With the deadlines fast approaching, we can share some of the simulations performed to assess the structural and thermal performance of the CubeSat.

The UoS3 project has seven interns working through the summer to prepare it for the critical design review in the Fly Your Satellite! program. From system architecture to software and structural analysis, the interns are working hard to advance the CubeSat through the Fly Your Satellite! program.

Congratulations to the UoS3 2016/17 GDP after their Viva this week!

This year's GDP has continued the UoS3 project by advancing the CubeSat through assembly, integration and preliminary testing. They also submitted a successful Fly Your Satellite! bid to the European Space Agency and earned the UoS3 a free launch in 2019.

All of us in the UoS3 project wish to thank the 16-17 GDP for their work through the year and wish all the best to the GDP in their future careers!

Congratulations to the team members who delivered a flawless presentation to impressed European Space Agency experts at the CubeSat selection process today. We're keeping our fingers crossed until we hear the outcome!

The UoS3 team are being shown testing facilities and being given talks by ESA experts at ESTEC ahead of their mission presentation tomorrow. Can you spot the UoS3 team members being shown the shaker table facilities?

We'd like to wish good luck to the UoS³ - University of Southampton Small Satellite team, who will be visiting ESA - European Space Agency next week to take part in the Fly Your Satellite programme.

The team will have the opportunity to attend lectures by CubeSat experts, meet other European university teams, and present the CubeSat to the Evaluation Panel.

We are going to European Space Agency!! Our CubeSat has successfully made it to the Fly Your Satellite Final Selection Workshop at ESTEC on the first week of May. A week of testing: UoS3's internals came together this week to be tested in the thermal chamber and the vacuum chamber.

The UoS3 went through some thermal testing today to ensure that its' antenna deployment mechanism will work in the harsh temperatures of space.

Last night, the UoS3 team submitted its' official bid for a launch to the European Space Agency.

We will be waiting over the coming weeks and months to hear the result of our strong proposal; in the meantime, the current GDP team are moving UoS3 through its' final build and into testing.

UoS3's current GDP are working hard to complete the final design of UoS3 and begin environmental testing. They've just received UoS3's structure back from being hard anodised for use with NanoRacks' deployment system on the International Space Station:

UoS3's power distribution system was designed and built as part of an Independent Project at the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Science Southampton, and forms a critical part of UoS3's on-board systems.
