Toddler Play & Learn Southport

I should have been celebrating a year of my toddler classes today. It should have been a happy day and with more summer classes planned to look forward to. Instead, this morning I'm just still trying to process what has happened this week. I am however super grateful for all of the people who have joined me in the classes over the last year, whether weekly or just every now and again. Thank you all. I've loved meeting you all and getting to know your little ones and hope to see you all again soon. Sending love to you all at this difficult time and hoping you're all ok. Late post I know but I have just been in shock today and don't have the words... However I do want everyone to know I'm thinking of them all. I'm just completely heartbroken for everyone affected directly and indirectly and for our community as a whole 💔

More Tuesday TPL fun from last week.

I love seeing the lovely interactions and learning opportunities between the little ones and their grown ups - whether that's parents, grandparents or whoever else brings them to join in the TPL fun.

It was a lovely session yesterday. The children were all very chilled and really enjoyed the messy play in particular.

It was the last class of the term but I will be announcing summer sessions this week. Been slightly delayed confirming a couple of things so apologies for that but will send a message out soon to people who have previously/recently attended. If you don't normally come along but would like to start, drop me a message. ❤️

Another activity we did this week was Dinosaur sorting! Another great fine motor skills activity that engaged the children with their interest in different dinosaurs and colours and use of the fine motor skills tools to pick them up and put them in different containers. We definitely have at least a couple of little budding paleontologists in the group! 🦕🦖

Last week we did a bug hunt! 🪲🕷️🐞

🐛The children enjoyed searching with their magnifying glasses and picking up creepy crawlies with the fine motor skills tools (which is great for their hand-eye-coordination, hand strength and developing new grasps which are useful for writing and other life skills like using scissors).

🦋It was a good learning opportunity for them to talk about what they found with their grown ups and encourage speech and new vocabulary.

🐝They really engaged and had fun 😊

It's been ages since we last had a Sunday session and I've missed our Sunday regulars!

A huge HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all of the dads, grandads and father-figures we have that come to class or are busy working to support our little ones whilst they play and learn.

Finally got my certificate for my Babywearing Peer Support course and it made me happy so had to share 😍

And weirdly I was helping a friend with hers when it came through!

What's your experience with wraps/slings/carriers? Did/do you use them with your one? Did you find it simple? Useful? I'd love to know your experiences of babywearing!

Spent this evening getting things ready for tomorrow, going through the props, cleaning everything to freshen everything up and make sure they're safe for little hands and free of germs, packing all the resources etc and been messaging a friend and reflecting on my classes. Honestly, it's only a little something I do but it's something I love. I love sharing my Tuesdays with you all and building our little TPL community. I love watching the kids grow and develop and have FUN! And I love seeing the grown ups chatting, relaxing, sharing experiences and making friends as well as bonding with their little ones. Really excited to see you all again tomorrow and thought I'd share some throw back pics from autumn 2023 just because I was looking through them and they made me smile 🥰

Classes run 9.15-10am on Tuesdays at Marshside Temperance Hall and have a mixture of structured activities and free play.

We do a mixture of activities aimed at developing fine and gross motor skills, language and communication, creativity and social skills, all of which are great for supporting EYFS objectives.

Activities vary each week but include story times, bubbles, nursery rhymes, singing and dancing, instruments, creative movement, use of props such as ribbons, poms, parachute, stepping stones, ball pit and tunnel, sensory messy play, arts and crafts and themed activities.

New Toddler Play & Learn term starts on Tuesday 4th June!

Classes run on Tuesdays at 9.15-10am at Marshside Temperance Hall on Shellfield Road.

We have spaces available still at the moment so please get in touch if you would like to reserve a space for your little one. Parents/grandparents/carers/childminders etc all welcome. Sibling discount available. No charge for siblings under 12m.

Lots of lovely activities planned for this term including singing, dancing, sensory messy play and mark making, arts and crafts, story times, parachute play, props such as beach balls, ribbons, instruments, scarves, balance stones, cones, ball pit, tunnel and more plus free-play with the props and toys.

Mixed cereal messy sensory dinosaur play.

Why?
Using different cereals is a taste-safe activity with different mediums to explore. They crunch differently when the dinosaurs stomp. They sprinkle differently. They make a different sound when they land on the tray. They smash differently in your hands. They look different and keep it interesting. By starting with them separated, it means your little one can distinguish what they have in front of them easily and it's fun to mix them up after. Picking them up, sprinkling them and making marks in the cereal or the dust residue are all great for fine motor skills and consequently are helpful for learning key skills such as writing later on when they're older. The use of the dinosaurs makes it more fun and means we can stomp and roar and make it rain on the Dino's or give them a rice crispies shower etc or eat the 'hay' or whatever. Remember, letting them explore is important for them to develop their own curiosity and learn for themselves. Playing with them can also be equally important to develop language as you talk about what you're doing and make sound effects and model things you can do. Have fun with it 🦕🦖

Just thought I'd share a few photos from last week's class where we did a bit of messy sensory play finding various things in the red rice in the tuff tray, played in the ball pit and had fun with the parachute (amongst other things).

Just wanting to send another huge congratulations to our lovely TPL couple and who got married on Friday. 👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏻
I first met Shana and Alex and their lovely little one last August when I launched TPL and have seen Shana nearly every week since and Alex on the occasions he can. It's been amazing meeting the 3 of you and we were honoured to join you to celebrate with you in the evening of your special day. Everything was gorgeous and Shana you looked absolutely stunning. Sending you all the best for the future🥰

What a lovely little session this morning.
It was only a small group today but we had a gorgeous time. We started with some nursery rhymes, some scarves and a counting book and then did some fine motor activities threading coloured pasta on shoe laces and playing with toys, some children dressed up and they enjoyed the instruments, ball pit and bubbles.
