FIFE’S MUSEUMS CLUB TOGETHER TO REACH MORE PEOPLE IN FIFE
Fife has a wealth of museums and heritage centres, from volunteer-run gems to exhibitions showing objects of important national and international significance. Now, locals and tourists alike will find it easier to find great places to visit in Fife, through a new leaflet that will become commonly accessible across the Kingdom.
Funding from Museum and Galleries Scotland has helped the Fife Museums Forum produce an eye-catching and accessible way for more people to find out about where they can visit and what they can see in their local area.
Freshly designed by Lochgelly-based Mint Modern Creative , 15,000 of the leaflets have been printed and will be popping up in local museums, libraries, information and visitor centres in and around Fife. The leaflet provides key information and access details for 16 museums across Fife. Welcome to Fife have added a QR code to make it even easier to discover more about each of the venues.

MUSEUM ROOF UPDATE
Lots of important work has been taking place recently to repair and restore the roof at 12 North Street. This week our contractors have focused on the chimneys, and we are delighted with the sympathetic stonework repairs made to preserve the west chimney. A brilliant job done! Our east gable chimney is in such a sorry state that a full rebuild is required, however the works will ensure our 17th century building is safe and restored for the long-term future.
Thanks to all who are supporting us on our journey to preserve this historic building!

It's International Picnic Day, so we'd like to share with you this interesting photo from our collection. This picture dates back to 1928, where three ladies enjoying their picnic are approached by a curious cow. We're unsure of the exact location in this photo, but the cow is believed to be an Ayrshire. She even still has her horns!
While the current forecast might not encourage the sentiment, are there any areas around St Andrews that you like to go picnicking? Craigtoun Park is one of our favourites!
🌷 Don't miss out on this garden-tastic event! The Hidden Gardens of St Andrews is back on June 23. Come for the flowers, stay for the fun! 🌿

Today is the final post for the 40th Anniversary of Volunteer's Week, discussing how Lizzie feels about her time as a volunteer with us at the Heritage Museum.
Since she started volunteering with the museum in November, Lizzie has been working with the collections. She was initially involved with the decant and is now working her way through a backlog of uncatalogued material recently discovered in the museum store. She finds this enjoyable and interesting as the objects she catalogues are so varied. Lizzie says, “It's lovely getting to work alongside the rest of the team and continually develop my cataloguing skills.”
A continuation from yesterday's post, today we will be hearing about Marjorie's experience as a volunteer in our museum store for the 40th Anniversary of Volunteer's Week!
Marjorie has volunteered for us for over 10 years, assisting with our collections. She enjoys spending Wednesday mornings at our museum store in Cameron, being able to examine the objects and artwork closely. Marjorie likes that different areas within the store are dedicated to the different objects, pictures and costumes, with the latter section being her favourite. She particularly enjoyed unpacking and hanging items from the costume collection. Marjorie said that she finds it interesting to come across artefacts that she hasn’t seen before, learn where they came from and who donated them.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Volunteers' Week, some of our volunteers have discussed with us the parts they enjoy best about their time working with the St Andrews Heritage Museum & Garden. Today, we will hear what Cailin has to say.
Cailin is our newest volunteer here at the Museum. Her placement with us contributes towards her Museum and Heritage Studies course with the University of St Andrews. Having obtained an undergrad degree in Scottish History, Cailin enjoys the work experience she receives with us as she is able to handle objects and artefacts from our collection and learn about their history, such as the Preservation Trust’s camera collection. Very different from her internship at a local art museum in her hometown of Midland, Texas, she sees this as a great opportunity to gain insight into niche parts of history, such as the religious history e.g. protestant reformations and the local fisherfolk communities.
Thank you to those who attended our volunteer social this afternoon! We had a great discussion about the objects that will be exhibited upstairs once the museum redevelopment is finished.
Also happy Volunteers' Week! We'll be posting more for this over the next couple of days, so stay tuned!

Do you know the History of St Andrews Fishwives? Pictured is Joan Clark, the last St Andrews Fishwife c1920.
In the image she is wearing the traditional costume of striped skirt, blouse and shawl, Joan sold fish from her barrow around the east end of the town. She lived in a cottage with just one room at 11 South Castle Street until her passing in 1927.

We have been identifying objects in store for future display and came across this pewter measure.
The object record tells us that it is from the Union Parlour (1835-1854) on Golf Place, a clubhouse for the R&A prior to the building of the R&A clubhouse in 1854. An amazing find that we look forward to displaying as part of our exhibition on the origins & development of St Andrews!
Less than a week now until our Fundraising Quiz Night! We have enough space left for 4 teams of 4 so if you are interested in attending, please get in touch. Tickets can be purchased through the link below, or you can contact us via email to reserve a place and pay at the door.

Our Story
The St Andrews Preservation Trust Museum is an independent social history museum. We are situated in a lovely 17th century house in the heart of the town’s old fisher quarter, a stone’s throw from both the Castle and the Cathedral. As a part of the St Andrews Preservation Trust, we are dedicated to keeping the history of our town and people alive and thriving. We have an extensive garden that’s lovingly maintained by our volunteers, community events, and of course a fantastic (and varied) collection of a whole host of curiosities donated by townspeople.
