As a student founded, managed, and financed organisation, supporting other student societies and start-ups is an essential element to SAASUM’s mission, alongside (of course) the furthered education and exposure to the conversation around Africa and the African diaspora. On this, SAASUM’s 10th year, we have decided to incorporate a new element to our Summit programme…During the customary intermission period between the panellist speaker keynotes and panel discussion, audience members are invited to try the newly-launched Lo’s Tacos catering, in the form of a private tasting!
Lo’s Tacos is a student-run Mexican food catering start-up, with origins in Mexico City. Their mission is to elevate St Andrews’s culinary experience through authentic Mexican food, as well as attempt to reach the unmet demand for international cuisine. This will be their premier event catering, and will operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. SAASUM is happy to provide this tasting for event ticket holders ONLY, as well as promoting our event with their team. We couldn’t be more pleased to combine such passionate teams of student-led initiatives at St Andrews.

Another important SAASUM partner is the St Andrews African Caribbean Society (ACS).
ACS is student affinity group and cultural society built for the Black and African Diasporic communities in St. Andrews. The SAASUM’s marketing for the 2023 September King of Asante Keynote was greatly assisted by the ACS team.
ACS serves St Andrews community members with social events that celebrate the cultures deriving from Afro-Caribbean culture(s), but also by encouraging academic and intellectual discourse that pertains to ACS’s wider community. As representatives of the largest, most diverse diaspora in the world, the Afro-Caribbean Society aspires to values of positive-community, mutual respect, and collective progress.
