We're not sure where to begin with this book review for Little Signers Club new book The Leaves on the Trees. We love it all!
As with the other books of the collection there is a clear and concise guide on how to sign with your child, followed by clear diagrams and descriptions of classic handshapes. And then of course the page of signs at the front of the book. It all feels very warm and familiar to fans of the collection. It's great that previous knowledge is never assumed so books can be enjoyed by anyone whether this is the 1st or the 5th book you have read.
The story has that fantastic rhythmical repetition that children (and adults) love to hear. This will be as firm a favourite as the rest of the collection. The illustrations are beautiful and warm full of autumn colours and imagery. Opening to the first page of the story and meeting our friends from 'Our Farmyard Friends' and 'At the Bottom of the Garden'. We then had to stop reading and scour every page to find all the elements from previous books - even the Grumpy Goat! Whilst look for these old friends we found new friends hiding around the pages - squirrels and birds.
We were so excited to see that one of the children in the story is a wheelchair user, and another character has hearing aids - its so important for young people to see representation of themselves in books. Look out on Friday for our give-away.
Tomorrow (3rd September) We will be at our usual spot Geek Retreat Stevenage enjoying a beverage and a chat at our Disability Hub - 12-2pm Fair usage policy (Buy something from the counter). Hope to see you there!

We have been working with some of the most amazing Hertswise Dementia Groups around Hertfordshire. The staff/volunteers and clients are always so kind and enthusiastic when we visit and keen to try signing along to some old classics.
We are upset to hear that some of these groups - lifelines for families, - are at risk of closing. Please please sign and share. These amazing clients need the continuity of care and support these groups provide.
