‘Les Alchimistes’ is a group of musicians specialising in historical performance of 16th 17th, 18th and 19th century music who met while studying at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg. On 10 November they will be present ‘On the drum of the ear’ as part of our Performers’ Platform concerts.
The performance is free with either an Exhibition Ticket or Festival Pass.

A FINE 5 STRING BAROQUE CELLO FOR SALE
This lovely cello is after the Brothers Amati instrument at the Royal Academy of Music Museum in London. Its measurements are 640 mm string length, length of body 708 mm, lower bouts 429 mm, upper 357 mm, mid 235 mm. The string length is such that the top ‘e’ string sounds sweet and strong while still allowing a rich sound from the C String. It is perfect for cellists wanting a baroque set-up instrument than can also be used to explore violin music one octave lower, in addition to the Suite no. 6 by Bach and his Cantatas with obligato cello piccolo. The top string can also be tuned down to d’ to allow cellists to explore French Viola da Gamba repertoire.
The back is maple medium curl and the front spruce medium grain with beautiful varnish in a warm orange brown on a yellow ground. The cello comes with a Black Hiscox case with wheels.

This lovely Hurdy Gurdy by Craigh Hohm in New York USA is based on one from Gotland in the 18th Century. It is strung in our NRI 'Tradition' Low Twist Gut Strings.

This beautiful instrument was made by Michael Willett, a long-standing NRI Customer, who asked us to calculate the diameters to string it with our Orpheus Lambgut Strings. He describes it as a 5th to 10th century Viking Lyre. It was commissioned by Julia Grove of the Breckland Society for her Viking Project. It not only sounds beautiful but looks stuniing with a gilded tailpiece and ornamentation.
