This fairly new Lenovo Ideacenter came into use with a boot issue. It transpires that the HDD (hard drive) had failed, thus breaking Windows. In this case, a clone wasn’t an option, so we have backed up all data, fitted a new SSD and installed a clean copy of Windows 11. One final thing to note, these Ideacenters are basically a laptop with a big screen - it uses a laptop HDD (very slow) and laptop RAM. It even uses a laptop PSU!

Helping a new client out today. Another IT company had recovered her data, but unfortunately hadn’t transferred it correctly. We have transferred all the data, created three user accounts and organised everything to be as similar as it was before!

Our third clone of the day! This PC was suffering; an extremely slow hard drive (HDD) was strangling what is otherwise a nice machine. We’ve cloned the entire operating system to a new SSD, and it’s now much quicker!

An emergency callout to a client in Romiley this morning - his whole network went down over the weekend - we’ve replaced the PSU on his router and it’s all working well again!

Another day, another Facebook scam. This time we received a comment on our Facebook profile image, warning us that our page was “slated for permanent deletion due to a post that violates our trademark rights”. Obviously, that isn’t the case! This is a very common scam, the scammer tries to get the user to go to a fake Facebook address, to ‘review’ the deletion. They will then ask you to login, but in reality, they’re stealing your login details. Again, it’s clear that the address is not part of the Facebook domain.

A new battery for the laptop this morning

On June 11, 2024, version 21H2 of Windows 10 Enterprise and Education and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise will go end of life. This EOL date means that your devices won’t receive any more security updates, patches, or technical support from Microsoft. Microsoft officially announced at the end of April 2023, that 22H2 will be Windows 10’s final version. This would mean that Windows 10 will be fully end-of-life by October 14th, 2025. We recommend that you update all the Windows installations within your organisation, or look at replacing them. We offer refurbished, Windows 11 compatible desktops and laptops.
