Horse and Rider; You are a Team, as one entity and when things go wrong from injury, accident, illness or trauma to any degree, the plan and time taken to recovery can be long, painful, sometimes very lonely & often confusing. Im Cat Dachtler IRVAP & i came to realise that during this crucial time of healing, us equestrians often have a stiff upper lip attitude. We dutily follow guidance & i think
since my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia i have been feeling more and more the need to just be with horses, have time for the healing and put the work in place for gaining a better healthier and rewarding balance in life
The 7 steps to build a better relationship with your horse is exactly what i need for myself
it's been such a long hard winter for those of you with the horses that's without trying to carry on in the ever more difficult times
cost of living
responsibilities
stress and worry
fatigue
finances / business
decision making
and more
all adds up but let's be real fellow, current or past horse owners...
even through some of the darkest days of winter we must remember we actually 'are' the strongest women on the planet for what we do and endure and what we cope with and get done and make happen
one thing i've come to realise since i haven't been able to spend as much with any horses is that
seeking support (friends & family need time invested too whether they 'like' your life style or not)
self care
strategy plans
are essential for us to live a life with horses for the fun and freedom feeling
please join fellow like minded horse owners here at Equestrian Logic where i hope to drop support bombs daily going forward when i can mentally keep up and physically not able to do much else
see you on the inside ππΌ

My Prayer To Equus
i trust in you, so you can trust in me,
i believe in breath of your spirit free,
surrounded by magic from beyond this realm,
grounded here, gentile is your power,
where time has no meaning, a minute akin an hour
precious equus, with your beauty & grace,
du' see mere me, justa' jigsaw o' ole' jumbled memory,
reflect here in the mirrors upon your face,
lead me quietly present, within your sacred space,
return me back to innocence, forward now,
onward my friend, pegasus' pace,
precious equus your striking peace,
serene & supported, here see my missing clarity,
one great spirit, one is in all,
so pure so wild so stand up free,
in stillness in silence, i hear the battle cry of souls that cannot flee, from fault,
so we sit soft in the storm, in balance we ride through - out of their thunder bolt,
within the five senses in tangible stillness we merge through layers of energy fields,
i think this is called harmony, possibly heaven,
with our hearts wide open,
we meet beyond rules, beyond any reality,
for now & for always,
for this, for you, for all, and for all eternity,
in this moment 'you' will forever be the present,
in this moment 'you' showed me 'you',
so i could see, we see the real me,
forever now in honour of your mistique & serenity,
here within crystal liberty,
your welcomed spirit has captured me,
im with you forever, yet forever we're free

What a beautiful thing to see, to think we nearly lost this little cob earlier on in the year from Toxic shock of some sort and a severe acute lami attack as a result.
Out here with 21yr old Fuzzy for the first time in a while cos i found it better to manage her in her own routine.
Infact she's prob always been slightly / chronic lami as most of our every day / domesticated horses seem to be these days, but with the help of Yandell & Hoofing Marvelous look at her now! Trimmed only yesterday by Louise
Don't get me wrong we've had to work for it and she's been in her own paddock and carefully managed with the correct hay and not a sniff of processed feed! πππΌ
We never know when we may be struck by these things and seeing your horse suffer and not understanding why, like with apple it hit in minutes and i'm always aware it could happen again to any one of us but we always get through it, we do the best we can, and that's all we can do!

discipline
is very different from 'routine'
us horsey folk can all do routine, routine, routine,
but what about discipline
discipline will keep you advancing
discipline does not mean adding more to your routine
discipline keeps you away from distraction
discipline only needs to grow toward its purpose less than 1% a day, that's 7% a week, 28% a month!
discipline removes obstacles and 'things' that hold you away from your dream
discipline means doing something you don't want to do when you don't want to do it and doing it any way (with a smile)
what does discipline mean to you .. it always seems to have a draining connotation to it dont you think ... but in reality it's very inspiring to know your determination muscle is big and the reason for discipline to become easy is all to do with your desired out come
step 1
find your why
it will keep you going when you want to give up! believe. me.
step 2
stop doing 1 thing every day from your list of to-do's that takes you away from your goal. Especially if it's relative to discipline ..
step 3
learn to say no, and mean it even if that means telling your self no to weakness, to wasting thoughts, time or money!
discipline one of the most undervalued components when it comes to moving your equestrian block mountains!
Join me this saturday to find out how to win a free 7 simple steps to building a better relationship with your horse.
this will be the first and only time EVER to be given away, next week end the price creeps up for the pre launch' you get it here now for doing ONE thing for me...
tell me why you and your horse could do with building a better relationship below or
email to [email protected]
well to say this year has been a disaster would be an understatement and it's not even over yet!
BUT there are many many positives to reflect on and look forward to and that's all i'm going to focus on as well as enjoy the now! enjoy the moment!
Now tho HOWEVER, id like to share a few lessons from this year with you
1- no matter how hard you try, you will always tell your self you have either tried too much, or not enough ... until you learn to say No, especially to yourself!
why is it us horse owners we rarely seem to be happy or content with the right amount of effort or time we've put in, whether that be relationships (horse or human π) or work, or home life, i always have that feeling i need to either do more, or that ive over done it... finding the balance is key, i've learnt that balance comes from working at planning and time management
2- giving up is never an easier option! - even when the chips are down, i can tell you cos i nearly did it, giving up feels worse than carrying on! The method to get away from this is to find your WHY again! why do you or why have you done what you always have ... and working at this will result in you knowing exactly WHO are you!! your identity is EVERYTHING, find your why, and you find your self & you will face the fear of giving up as an easy option and realise who the hell you are again! Find and realise your identity & what you want to stand for and represent and use it to your advantage
3- no matter how much you earn, if you spend more than what's returning you will hit the bread line eventually (unless you can live of the interest of a healthy bank account!) Financial independence is huge and many horse owners reside them selves to the fact they will never be financially free, and yet to face those challenges as horse owners and make those changes are so liberating. so remember we're making money to save it.. not to spend it on the pink shiny diamantΓ© things for the pony!
4- do not follow the crowd! all this trying to fit in, to be like the others, to do what others do is NOT 'your' path! This year i found my self with 4 horses all crook and all unrideable!! Just when i was getting back in the groove i was hit with lameness and illness (horses not me.. that's for no. 5 of this list!) and learning to just be, to enjoy the horses for horses sake took a lot out of me when i was ready to fly they weren't and i've had to learn to meet them where they're at which has been beyond eye opening and rewarding.
5- personal illness, aches, pains, stress, depression (black dog!) can kick in any time, a brick wall was hit last year after months of stress and added compassion fatigue that built up until it kicked in hard, im still in recovery from that im sure but with more added stress it's gone on longer and worse than it should have done and it was as much as i could do to find a single thing on particular day that gave me hope, the small wins like i got up and i was thankful for something as simple as a soft pillow for my head, fresh water from a tap, a cold fridge with food in, i had to focus on any thing positive i could find else the overwhelm would have left me beyond empty.
6- never count your chickens til they're hatched!! for real!! i thought i had it all figured out, self employed work was picking up pace after recovering from / leaving the vets in the new year, and bills were being paid on time (and even in advance), i purchased my first ever lorry and thought this year was in the bag, BUT never count your chickens, if there's a component in your life that takes up more than an 1/8th of your life or your finances i've learnt now to ALWAYS have a back up plan
7- friends & partners, parents & children all need their time too, if you don't actively look out and look after your closest family friends and associates, then why would any one be there for you when you need them?! decide who is worthy of your time and energy and why, go with pure kindness and intentions, with honourable integrity because at the end of the day having someone on the phone or someone to meet up with at your favourite places can mean the world to them and to you!
8- lastly... dietary needs are crucial for a healthy body and mind and if you can't get that fruit and veg and protein and vitamins into you, so you have enough energy for yard life then take supplements! i honestly believe if it wasn't for my trialling of supplements and now finding the ones that really work i would still be feeling grey, and the yard, my health and fitness would suffer more because of it
so, my win for today, rather than still sulking about huge crap i still have occurring, or the state of the world, or not being able to ride or any thing else.... i catch my self slipping into negativity and focus on the positives!! it's not easy! but it was never meant to be easy!! BUT i also know it was never meant to be a struggle!!
thanks for listening
please share your story with me as horse owners we need to support each other lift each other up and look for brighter days ...
if you're winning please share how your winning and what makes you and your life as a horse owner feel complete ...
Ok, i got a question for you ...
Q- what's your biggest struggle atm ....?!
seriously.. as a horse owner what's your 'oh jeez i really can't face THAT issue'
or the one you and your partner argue about,
or what's the one THING that always gets in the way?
tell me π
Think about it...!
Wildlife, Pets and Live stock... are worth more than remembering our Guy Fawkes with Bangs!

π΄ I love reading about misconceptions when it comes to feeding horses, but today Iβd like to debunk some common myths about good old sodium chloride.
π§ Myth #1: Salt only needs to be fed when the weather is hot.
π΄ Truth #1: Salt needs to be fed 365 days a year because it is vital for many bodily processes and is excreted in sweat, saliva, mucous and urine. Even in the midst of winter, horses need salt.
π§ Myth #2: Horses instinctively know to drink water regularly, especially when they are hot and sweaty.
π΄ Truth #2: A horseβs thirst reflex is triggered by sodium, which is a component of salt. Horsesβ sodium requirements need to be met in order to seek water.
π§ Myth #3: A horse can meet their sodium and chloride requirements with a salt block alone.
π΄ Truth #3: Unlike cattle, horses do not have an abrasive tongue and are not designed to lick harsh surfaces to extract nutrients. While it is technically possible for a horse to consume their daily salt requirement from a salt block, it is much less work and more physiologically-appropriate for them to consume loose salt that is either provided in a meal or left out free-choice.
π§ Myth #4: Horses know what nutrients they need and can self-medicate with supplements such as vitamins and minerals.
π΄ Truth #4: Salt is the only nutrient horses have been studied and proven to actively seek out when it is required. They will not seek out other nutrients βbecause they know they need it.β Look at how much salt and molasses (palatable additives) are added to free-choice supplements.
π§ Myth #5: Himalayan rock salt is better for horses than plain salt.
π΄ Truth #5: Himalayan rock salt contains naturally occurring components other than sodium and chloride. Some may view this as a positive; however, it is usually a more expensive means of supplementing salt, and often contains traces of iron which almost never needs to be supplemented given horses are generally oversupplied iron by their forage intake alone.
π Your horse should be receiving a minimum of 10g of salt per 100kg of body weight each day; typically more after exercise, intense weather, or illness.
remember this like it was yesterday .. the feeling the emotion the riding every stride with him!! incredible stuff

Our Story
Horse and Rider = Team, and when things go wrong from injury, accident, illness or trauma we possibly all know & understand the road (approach / plan) into the recovery process can be long, painful, confusing and sometimes very lonely.
I came to realise that during this time us equestrians often have a stiff upper lip attitude, the impact of needing veterinary attention often goes under estimated. When our horse and rider team / partnership breaks down i feel we need extra holistic support to see us get back on track as simply as possible, this is where my REMEDIAL THERAPY, aptly name THE MINDFUL TOUCH comes into its own.
At The Little Yard on The Hill, at Boyton Hall EC, or mobile to your yard i work Holistically with other health care professionals and yard staff to contain the boundaries of the recovery process and under your veterinarians guidance you can rely on me to carry some of the burden Back Into Fitness and then Back In The Saddle as simply, smoothly and swiftly as possible.
I am Sports Injury Trained to help all soft tissues function at their best.
Working with the soft tissue structures, i specialise in Posture and functional fitness, working the horses into a rehab programme.
If you need 3 days, or if you need 3 months rehab, i am there to make sure we set the goals, set times limits, set the fitness plans and create a systematic system that will support you in the recovery process.
