My name is Floor. I have been working overseas for the last 10 years and met many wonderful Filipinas in these years. Working overseas for Filipinas is not always easy. As a female overseas Filipino worker, your health may not always be your priority. For example, a busy job, limited time off, not knowing where to go, not speaking the language or preferring a Filipino doctor may be only a few of t

he many reasons that get in the way of seeing a doctor regularly when working overseas. I am asking you to take part in my research that is specifically about and for overseas Filipinas. This research is part of my doctoral research for Lancaster University, in the UK. The first part of the research is a survey about cervical cancer screening, or pap smears. A pap smear, also called a pap test, is a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women. A pap smear involves collecting cells from your cervix. The cervix is the lower, narrow end of the uterus. The cervix connects the va**na (birth canal) to the upper part of the uterus. The uterus (or womb) is where a baby grows when a woman is pregnant. I would like to find out what you, as a female overseas Filipino worker, know about cervical cancer screening, or pap smears and how you feel about these. I want to find out if female overseas Filipino workers like you, are having pap smears. I wouldalso like to know the reasons for women having pap smears or reasons for not having these. Trying to find an answer to these questions may be a starting point for informing Filipino women about pap smears. Cervical cancer is preventable and treatable if it is caught early. Pap smears are an effective way of finding abnormal cells that could develop into cancer. Overseas Filipino Workers have been called ‘economic heroes’! The work you are doing overseas is really important for your loved ones back home. But your health is also really important, let’s try to improve the health for all overseas Filipinas!
