In a digital amp, the audio signal and the power supply are not the only feeds. There will also be a clock. It may be internal. It may be self oscillating via the feedback loop. This one is external. Of course there is no information in the chip data on how it will respond to a loss of clock.

I've seen EV P3000 fail pretty messily before but it was always the output board. Not this time. When I had finished removing the dead bits, less than half were left.

Air filters removed and not replaced. And severe exposure to damp. Oh dear.

I also had to re-tap all the holes in the heatsink (UNC) because the original screws were taptite and I wanted them to be accurate for the new (stainless) screws.

I know it wasn't anything to do with the amplifier. Sometimes bridges just blow. A spike on the mains. But I was amazed by how many fuses/breakers it took out.

Your instruments lie. Always. But usually it doesn't matter. In this case, it did. The device worked fine in the tester, which runs at 5V, but not in the circuit, which runs at 30V.
