My next course. Mindful sewing. My new favourite thing. Come snd be inspired!

I am in love with Japanese sewing techniques. I have been playing with it for over a year now. Below are some examples of what I have made. Some of this is Boro Boro work ( visible mending) and all about extending the life of clothes. The technique derives from Japanese peasant life and the ‘need’ to mend and strengthen labourers clothes for practical reasons. It is now an art firm in its own right. The other technique is Sashiko. This is also used as a decorative mending technique and often involves geometric patterns. It’s just beautiful. The last image here is Sashiko ( not my image)

So I will be running some sewing sessions to share the techniques ( and the love!)

All sessions will be a Saturday night at Whitley Bay Big Local 4-6pm

27th July 2024 4-6pm
Workshop 1: An introduction to Japanese sewing including; History, materials used and a chance to have a go at both Boro and Sashiko techniques + a free sewing kit to take away.

24th August 2024 5-6 pm
Workshop 2: A deeper dive into the art of Japanese BoroBoro work. Participants will be invited to bring an item to work on and to embellish/ mend using Boro work.

28th September 2024. 4-6pm
Workshop 3: A deeper dive into Japanese Sashiko stitching. Participants will be invited to bring an item to work on and embellish using Sashiko.

Workshops bookable separately or book all 3 and get a 10% discount.

Todays creation titled ‘snow day’
So here’s the thing

I have an idea
I have a go at making it
Do a few versions til I’m happy with the basic design
Then I turn it into a kit to sell in my Etsy shop. ( to make it easily doable)
To share the love, skills,materials and top tips.

At the moment I’m all focussed on needle felting. It’s much easier than you would imagine and so satisfying!

Also in this way we can form a little group to support and inspire each other
Following the course, participants will be proficient in needle felting and know all they need to begin this new art form/ hobby. ( as well as your own needle felting kit)

I’m developing a new range of children’s crafts in my Etsy shop.
It’s so fun playing with ideas.
My prices is that I will make something I have an idea for, and try out a few ways and then break down the making activity into easy steps and make instructions to make it doable for little ones. For these I’m also going to do step by step videos to guide the way.
