Late April John Harrison Newsletter
Allotment Garden - Cats, Tomatoes, Cabbage Tip, Salads Here in Wales, like the rest of Britain, it’s been a slow start to the season. No dramatic ‘beast from the east’ cold snaps with snow falling, just cool and wet for the most part. I think we’re near a month late with everything outdoors but, for the most part, we’re catching up.
A Very Apt John Harrison Newsletter
🌧🌦🌧⛈🌧
Allotment Garden - Wet Weather Growing & Seed Special From the amount of emails I've received on the subject I think many a gardener and allotment holder are feeling thoroughly fed up with the constant wet and windy weather we've had since last August in the UK.
This Sunday (24th March) is the Wakefield Hospice Road race.
If you are planning on visiting the trading hut between 10 and 11 am please use the top end of Southwell Lane by the school as the bypass will be closed to vehicles.

the John Harrison late February Newsletter
Allotment Garden Newsletter - Stale Beds, Sowing Tips, Onions I’m afraid we’ve had a tough week. First we lost our cat Rufus, which was a shock. I think he had a heart attack or a stroke but he looked peaceful when I found him lying on the bedroom floor.
January Newsletter from John Harrison
Allotment Garden Newsletter - Horseradish, Propagation, Rockdust and More The weather has been interesting here. From sliding on the ice in the freezing cold to trying to avoid being blown over in the gales. I was really concerned that storm Isha was going to destroy a greenhouse, but it came through unscathed.
The Annual General Meeting of the Association will be held on Monday 26th February, 2024, commencing at 19:30 in the Concert room at Horbury Working Members Club, Cluntergate, Horbury.
Following the AGM, we will have a speaker, Lee Plevey, who will talk to us about "What is going on in the commercial compost world". Lee will talk about peat and peat free compost and will answer your questions.
The evening will close with a pie and pea supper.
Check your inbox for your invite and don't forget to reply to the email so we know numbers for supper.
The Trading Hut will be open as normal on the 3rd, 10th & 17th December 2023.
We will be closed on the 24th and 31st December reopening on Sunday 7th January 2024.
And a small reminder that your 2024 membership is now due, £4 or £2.50 for OAP's.
Mid October John Harrison newsletter
Allotment Garden Newsletter - Potting Compost, Cabbages, Pruning As I write this we’ve a storm outside. The leaves on the trees have been browning for a few weeks now and the 50 mph plus gusts are stripping them from the branches. Not a good day to be outdoors!
We've had an inquiry about whether we know of any member who wants to take on a 'one off' paid role as gardener for an elderly person in the Lupsett Park area who needs their garden tidying up for the winter. It's described as a "good few hours work" for the right person. They are looking for someone who is an experienced, but not necessarily a professional, gardener. Pay by negotiation. If interested please contact Adele Guest on 07944 339610
If you would like to pre order your seed potatoes please pop into the trading hut and add your name and potato details to the list.
The late September John Harrison newsletter
Allotment Garden Newsletter - Growing Tips & More Autumn officially starts with the equinox on Friday, but it’s here already in North Wales. It’s getting cooler and we’re already building a fire in the evenings. The rain never stops for long and I could do with a good dry week to catch up on all the jobs. I know I'm not to only one feeling th...

The July 13th edition of the John Harrison Newsletter
Allotment Garden Newsletter - Storing, Pest Control, Garlic I hope this newsletter finds you well and reaping the rewards from your plot. This year is looking fantastic for us. The tomato plants are heaving as are the peppers in the greenhouse. I don’t recall ever seeing the potato haulm looking as it does this year. Fingers crossed the tubers are matching...

Too hot for Tomatoes? 🥵🍎
The June issues of the John Harrison Newsletter
Allotment Garden Newsletter - Too Hot for Tomatoes, Cucumber Growing Well it’s been another brilliant week here in Wales. It’s usually us looking enviously at the south of England’s weather but not this year. Sadly it’s set to break at the weekend so not a rerun of the fabled summer of 1976.
Grow Bags are back in stock at the trading hut!
£4.60 each or three for £13.

Now the weather has changed and continues fine, I’m grabbing every opportunity to catch up. Even getting around to some jobs I’ve been meaning to do for a long time.

Allotment Garden Newsletter - Fertiliser, Discounts, and W**d Control Well the weather has not been exactly spring like here but the clocks have changed and we’ve more daylight than dark being past the equinox. Even if I can’t get much done in the rain outside, at least the potting shed is dry so I can play in there.
