Tranquil Meadow has been mowed for those dogs who are sensitive to grass seeds in eyes, can’t find their toys in long grass or just like to romp about on shorter grass 🎾🧸👀

What food is the best reward to stop my dog chasing? 05/06/2024

This reiterates my point that dogs with prey drive cannot always be trained with food alone
Take the Lead Dog Training is inspirational and has taught me most of what I know about prey drive & recall and thanks to Jamie, my dog has a solid recall - and it’s not due to ham, chicken or cheese!

What food is the best reward to stop my dog chasing? This video speaks for itself!SO many people are told that you just need to use a “Higher value reward” or “Tastier treat” to stop your dog from running away ...

Come on everyone, train your dog properly.
If you need help with sheep (and deer) avoidance, I can help.

A lead should be courtesy NOT necessity.

“Train them AND restrain them”

The NFU Online have released their annual statistics for livestock worrying/attacks by dogs.

Yet AGAIN, the figures are going RAPIDLY the wrong way. And yet AGAIN, exactly the same, FAILED advice is being spewed out. Despite the fact that is has been PROVEN to be FAILING for YEARS.

Some stats for 2023:

Across the UK, dog attacks on livestock were estimated to cost £2.4 million last year, **up nearly 30% compared to the previous year**.

More people were letting their dogs off leads in the countryside last year than in 2022, 68% and 64% respectively.
The survey also revealed that **less than half (49%) said their pet always comes back when called**.

Almost eight percent admitted their dog chases livestock but 46% believed their dog was not capable of causing the death or injury of farm animals. More than half (54%) felt they did not need to take active measures to prevent their dog from chasing.

The survey also revealed that if present at an attack, 57% of dog owners would intervene to stop it, **22% would report it to a local farmer and 11% would call the police**.

ARDO are currently working to ENCOURAGE reporting, to ensure that injured animals are treated and farmers compensated.

We are seeking further cooperation and support from farming stakeholder groups going forwards.

XL Bully Insurance policy update.

I know I’m getting boring about this subject but I have an amendment from my insurers.

For the full terms of my insurance, please refer to my post from early Dec 2023.

Hopefully that’ll be the last you hear from me on this subject!

Best wishes and happy walkies, Melanie 💕🐾

“If the household has more than 1 dog, they can come to the field together as long as they have a minimum of 1 handler. All dogs leads and muzzles can be removed once in the field including the XL Bully.
If there are dogs from different households, the banned breed will need to remain muzzled and on a lead at all times with a 1:1 handler.”

03/01/2024

Just to remind you, we welcome all dogs including those classed as XLBullies.

Please ensure you keep your dog on the lead and muzzled until you have locked yourself into the field (this is to prevent anyone inadvertently entering your field)

All XL Bullies visiting the fields must adhere to the new laws 🐾

29/12/2023

If you are users of the dog park and want your dog included in collages, please send me a pic of your pup! 🐾💕🙏

Good old Taffy, she mows your paths in the summer and chops logs in the winter

07/12/2023

I will continue to welcome all breeds at the dog park and my insurer’s have said the following:

FIELD HIRE
As your insurer, you will be covered to hire out your private fields for an XL Bully Dog on the following basis:

The dog is registered with the index of exempted dog (IED) and a copy of the life certificate is obtained and provided to us in the event of a claim.

A copy of the public liability insurance certificate for the dog is obtained and provided to us in the event of a claim.

The dog handler ratio is 1:1 with their handler at all times

The dog is Neutered – in line with Government Rules

The dog is Micro Chipped

The field is private property with no public access passing through

The field is securely fenced and locked so the dog cannot escape

The dog is kept on a lead and muzzled until the gate is shut when entering the field

The dog is put back on a lead and muzzled before opening the gate to leave the field

You can remove the lead and muzzle once inside the secured field

If the household has more than 1 dog, they can come to the field together, but the banned breed dog must have its own handler and then another member of the same household needs to be present to supervise the other dogs. If there is more than 1 banned breed in the household they can come together but each dog must have its own handler.

Come and have fun at the Dog Park but wrap up warm, it’s getting chilly!

13/11/2023

Funnily enough I was just talking about this with friends last week.

Please consider whether your dog actually NEEDS castration before you chop his bits off.

Veterinary Scientists are urging veterinarians to rethink old methods of neutering.
"There is growing evidence that surgical castration of dogs may not bring all the benefits previously assumed. Times have changed too, and vets and clients are increasingly questioning whether routine castration should continue to be considered best practice."
Here are some headlines from Veterinary Record which is the official journal of the British Veterinary Association - BVA, which is the largest membership community for the veterinary profession in the UK.
