Usually at this time of year, as a Christmas turkey producer our phones are ringing off the hook. This year it is as though Christmas has been cancelled. Up and down the country fresh Christmas turkey producers are left with large quantities of birds unsold because customers are not ordering them.
We don't know if it is media hype over emphasizing a 'turkey shortage' or a negative impact bird flu has had on customers, prompting you to buy foreign frozen imported birds 'just in case'.
Whatever the reason, the tragedy is that beautiful British turkeys are going to go to waste unless everyone that can, walks into their local butchers or goes to their local turkey farm, and orders a bird. Please order something for Christmas if you haven't ordered already, or maybe something to celebrate New Year.
This is a genuine plea for all British turkey farms, butchers and farm shops.

Our last free range flock of turkeys have now been brought inside in accordance with the UK housing order which is now in force. They may be inside but still happy birds, we are just hoping to keep them as safe as possible. Currently they are having the radio played to them to try and prevent any spooking from unusual loud noises. Please can all bird keepers be aware that the housing order applies to everyone. Even if you only have a couple of back garden chickens, you must now house them.

Another year over. Our ‘social distancing’ paying pods worked a treat and everyone was very patient as we limited numbers in the shop. A busy few weeks but worth it to have all the positive comments we have received. Please have a joyful Christmas and New Year and continue to take pleasure from the small things in life. Right .... time to start planning Christmas 2021!

Thank you to Coventry and Warwickshire Radio BBC CWR for coming out to see us this morning. Early morning interview with Sally on the Phil Upton show discussing the likelihood of 'panic buying of Christmas turkeys'. Inevitably there will be more people at home eating than ever before meaning more turkeys will be needed. Our advice is:- order early, whether with us or your local butcher or farm shop. Ensure you know where your turkey has come from and that it is local and not imported. Now more than ever we must support the UK economy and UK farmers.

Oh my goodness they are at it again! Another 9kg goose this year, with several 8kg's! There must be truth in the old saying when it's pouring with rain 'weather for ducks (and geese)'! There was clearly no need for us to be worrying about them in that dreadful weather!

The countdown has begun, my advent calendar is open and decorations are up. Our beautiful bronze turkeys are dry hanging, such an important part of the process for tenderising the meat. This is something you won’t get from a supermarket turkey.

Huge Christmas goose weighs in at 21lbs - Stratford Herald

Weighing 9.5kg, nearly 21lbs, the goose is bigger than the average weight for table geese which is usually 4kg or 8.8lbs. T...

In all our years of rearing free range geese we have never had one THIS BIG!! The average size goose is 4kg (that's the small one in the pic!) and the big bruiser weighs in at a whopping 9.5kg! Crumbs, what a bird!
